Aenema is by far the best TOOL album. The drumming is intense and manyards vocals are strange but good. Manyard and Hartnett you ROCK!!! Keep it up HARTNETT!

Excellent TOOL CD...a MUST have for any Maynard/Tool fan. Includes the infamous 'Sober', which is the song that radio listeners first got to sample this unique band's style and originality. Four stars! ****

This is such a great album. I listened to it over and over and I still am overwhelmed by how aggressive and soothing the music can be. These guys are geniuses.

Tool's music is not only awesome,but controversial. many people who have heard tool either like it or hate it. the ones that like it are die-hard and all the way. Tools' artistic sense makes it more than music. IOt's art plain and simple. and those of us who are smart enough to appreciate that fact treat Tool's music as art, not some idiotic way to make money, like most other "artists". Thos of you who hate Tool:

This was the first Tool CD I ever got. It is awesome! After this I got Laterallus then Aenima. I still don't have Opiate yet but have listend to it hundreds of times. NE Ways TOOL ROCKS!!

If you are new to Tool this is the definite album to start with.
Undertow starts off with more melodic, not too complex songs but gets trickier with every passed track.
Yet there is no filler on the album.
Also it is more straight-forward as the following albums because it doesn't contain such weird interludes like "Ions" or "Eon Blue Apocalypse".Was this review helpful? Yes - NoTool - Undertow
This album is awesome and one of the finest pieces of music since opiate. I'm a huge tool fan and I love the band beyond words. The music is complicated and melodic and Maynard's voice is like a light scattered across a barren, dark field.

undertow is a great album, but it does have some minor flaws. i feel that in this point in time tool had not yet discovered how they wanted to put theyre sound together, or possibly, how to put theyre sound together (since it is so detailed). but nonetheless, undertow is amazing (undertow, 4degrees, intolerance). thank you tool

I love this album, It is not better than the others. I do think it is the best booklet I've ever seen. They put some hard work into those illustrations. My favorite song on this album is "BOTTOM"

What is there not to love about this album? From the creepy cover art-work, to the first single to this album ("Sober") to their videos to even the pictures in the liner notes this album is among the best ever recorded. All the songs rock hard with a ferocity sorely missing from other albums. Standout tracks include the aforementioned "Sober", "Undertow", "Intolerance" & the last track (& my favourite Tool song) the odd "Disgustipated". If there was something I would've added to this album it would be more songs!!! Really great album.

Tool is just the best band to walk the face of this earth!!!! This follow up to their 1992 Ep "Opiate", is just a fine peace of work. All the songs are just shockingly great! The best songs are Sober, Prisson sex, Undertow, Bottom.

Yes - NoYou play the album, begins with intolerance and you're hoping the rest of the album will sound like that, then with Prison Sex you feel more than proud, Sober is just the best song in this record, Bottom fills your anger, Crawl Away takes your breath away, Swamp Song makes you fly, undertow is a bit relaxing but powerful too, 4 Degrees leaves you on your kness, Flood=awesome and the whole disgustipated from track 10 to 69 is a work of art. UNDERTOW = 5 stars

"Undertow" is a definitive in the hard rock genre, filling in the gaps left by more mainstream bands like Pearl Jam and Nirvana. When I first heard this album, I was in total awe, that a band can release such power and anger in their music. I believe most of the "hard rock" bands such as Kid Rock, Limp Bizkit, Godsmack are heavily influenced by Tool. I completely disagree with the statements made about the music being repetative. I find every song to have a distinct personality. Listen closely.

in response to what u have just said i am totally astounded by what you have to say about tool, and i thank you for being level headed and not losing your cool. Yes tool IS different, and NO they will never win the "best hard rock album" beacuse of over limp bizkit loving cheap imitation "hard" rock acts. NOW as far as this album... This album is the "eviler" side of tool, AEnima is the gentler more subtle side and lateralus is by far NO comparison to either. ALL and I repeat ALL are unique and GREAT in thier own way and therefor should NOT be compared to each other...
