    His Best Work! Great Production!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jul 3, 2002

DJ Quik has finally made a complete album with diverse beats. "The Proem" is a totally funked out track and guest Talib Kweli joins the fun and rips it. 'Under The Influence' is a musical journey of live instumentation mixed in hip hop form. Quik flo...wed tight and produced 15 out of 16 tracks. Some other bangers are "Trouble", "Put It On Me" and "Ev'ryday". "Ev'ryday" sounds similiar to Eightball& MJG's 'Buck Bounce' but better. "Get Loaded" is one of those slick laid back tracks which features some nice bass guitar playing. I was hoping to hear Snoop Dogg flow on the new Quik album but he didn't. "50 Ways" is like an experimental flow over a simple snare drum beat. That track reminds me of Nas's "Last Words". Now for the best track : "Quik's Groove #6" is one of the best jazz/hip hop insrtumentals of all time. Musician Sam Kininger plays the sax with such grace and style. This is probably Quik's most artistic Groove yet. You only wish Quik would produce whole albums for Snoop Dogg and Mc Eiht. Quik also raps at a different speed throughout the album, making it not soo boring. 'Under The Influence' is 10 times better than 'Balances & Options'. His beats sound rich and original. He doesn't use those same ol' Zapp &Roger beats, you might hear a synthizied hook put that's it. "Sex Crymee" is really the only suspect track on the album. I'm givingthis album 5 because I don't think he can make a better album. I mean 'Under The Influence' is better than 'Way 2 Funky' and 'Quik Is The Name'. Read more Less

    QUIK IS AT IT AGAIN

    By BodenC  Jun 30, 2002

THE WEST COAST VETERAN IS BACK WITH HIS 6TH RELEASE. THIS ALBUM HAS A GROWN UP TASTE AND I LIKE THE CLARITY OF HIS FLOWS. SOME OF THE TRACKS THAT STAND OUT ARE THE REGGAE-PACED "GINA STATUATORRE" THE ROGER TROUTMAN-INSPIRED "ONE ON 1" AND A PARTY ANT...HEM "COME 2NYTE" QUIK IS OFTEN UNDERRATED AS A RAPPER AND PRODUCER. QUIK IS A MUSICAL GENIUS. HE'S THE ONLY ARTIST I KNOW THAT CAN GET AWAY WITH RHYMING ON A JAZZ OR ROCK INSTRUMENTAL. Read more Less
