Synopsis: Under California Stars (1948)

Roy and his pals at the Double-R-Bar Ranch go after a shady gang that stole Trigger. In an action-packed episode, Roy and Trigger return to the ranch in preparation for an anniversary broadcast. He arrives to find that Cookie has hired all his relatives, and that a gang has been hunting range horses. Roy immediately stops the hunting on his land, but then Trigger gets...

    Pros: great music

    Cons: Dale Evans ain't on here

    Great acting and everything on this, but if you've read any of my other reviews, you've noticed I tend to focus on the music. And boy, is it good! The first song we get, "King of the Cowboys," starts out the movie pretty well by ext...olling the many virtues of Roy Rogers. We learn that Roy is the bravest, romancingest, shootingest, fightingest, and singingest man on the Silver Screen. It is sung by my favorite Pioneer line-up (Bob Nolan, Tim Spencer, Lloyd Perryman, Pat Brady, Hugh & Karl Farr) Even Cookie Bullfincher sings a line or two, a very interesting experience ; ) Then we have "Serenade to a Coyote" sung by the Pioneers. This song can also be found on two CDs that I know of so far, "Cigareets, Whusky...and Cool, Cool Water" and "Sons of the Pioneers: Country Music Makers" The third song is a soothing lullaby, "Little Saddle Pal" sung by Roy Rogers with the Pioneers in the background. Roy sings it in both English and Spanish, which I thought was neat. The last song is "Under California Stars" which Roy Rogers and Jane Frazee sing. Jane'll do, but Dale would have been better. All the same, if you love hearing Roy and the Pioneers singin', then get this movie! Read more Less
