    This album BLOWS!!

    By Tom H  Jun 20, 2000

Oh My GOD!! I bought this album the other day and popped in into my car. I'm driving down I-66 going to work. Before I knew it, I had my window down and was reaching for the cassette players eject button! I'm a huge Howard Stern fan. I listen to his... show EVERY single day and haven't missed an episode in the past 7 years! I saw this tape in the store and just had to own it since it had Howard's name on it. But, don't be fooled all of you Howard Stern fans... Not everything with his name on it is a blast. A lot of his old radio bits and stories are contained on this album. Some are amusing, but the majority of this album is just horrible! I'm sorry Howard, but they really are...Please...save yourself some time and money and forget that you ever saw this album. Seriously...it is a total waste of money. Just listen to Howard's show and be happy he's still on the air. Hope this helps you... Read more Less

Before Howard Stern became well known in New York (and later on, a national celebrity), one of his earliest radio gigs was hosting his own show in Washington, D.C. It was during this phase of his radio career that he honed his act, and welcomed onboard eventual longtime cast members Fred Norris and Robin Quivers. Perhaps to try and cash in on his fast rising popularity, Stern and Norris decided to make their own comedy album in 1982, '50 Ways to Rank Your Mother.' Over the years, Stern has been very vocal about his dislike of how the album turned out, and much to his pleasure, the album seemed to fade away from view only a few years after its release. But with Stern's popularity skyrocketing by the early ‘90s, the album was rereleased on CD in 1994, with altered cover artwork and under a new title, ‘Unclean Beaver.' Be forewarned, this is not a ‘best of the Howard Stern show' from this period, but rather a collection of song parodies and bits created in a recording studio. And it's eas...y to see why Stern disapproves of the album, it pails in comparison to his radio show it often comes off like a racier (and unfunnier) 'Weird Al' Yankovic album, as evidenced by such selections as “Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, OJ Baby You Can Rent a Car" and “Happy Birthday To You." Stern has gone on to create much funnier and wittier bits than the ones included here, and if its creator has denounced this product countless times, maybe that should tell you something. - Greg Prato, All Music Guide Read more Less

Biography

Howard Stern

Love him or hate him, Howard Stern single-handedly revolutionized the talk radio format in the U.S. Before hitting it big in the '80s and '90s, talk radio was strictly limited to newscasts, but Stern took it a whole step further -- incorporating comedy (often sexually charged), sketches, song parodies, celebrity interviews, and witty observations into his weekday four-h... Read more
