Uncle Chaim is a Powerful Drama Bringing Hope

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Sep 26, 2005

Pros: It's entertaining, heartfelt, full of emotions and very well done.

Cons: My only regret is that this film wasn't done years ago.

"Uncle Chaim" is one of those rare films that brings tears to your eyes from watching a beautiful story well told. Indeed, it has the rare distinction of showcasing not one but three scenes that can be described as brilliant. This is a sto...ry of two brothers. The younger one Abie, healthy and normal, struggling to maintain the illusion of a traditional family; the older, Chaim, mentally challenged. We follow the journey of a man with the soul of a prophet and the mind of a child. The Director's subtle direction displays emotional intelligence that in the hands of another may have degenerated into the realm of camp. It is never pleasant to see ourselves in characters treating their own family like an outcast but the film takes this sentiment to a conclusion that we too can be forgiven our weaknesses for hating others for theirs. It is a great film. Read more Less
