While 1991's Touched by Jesus was an attempt to hit the mainstream, 1992's Ultraviolet was a shedding of the past for All About Eve. With the Church's Marty Wilson-Piper still in tow, Regan and crew made a conscious effort to enter the shoegazer/dream-pop sweepstakes on this release. And not unlike the Mission U.K.'s attempt to explore new territory, Ultraviolet was not received well by Eve fans. What is ironic about the whole thing is that the dreamy lyrics and sweeping melodies of Ultraviolet are very visible in the group's past catalogue. "Phased" and "Yesterday Goodbye" are great dream-pop tunes, and tracks like "Infrared," "I Don't Know," and "Some Finer Day" manage to meld old Eve with the new. Ultraviolet may have been a drastic change to some, but it held promise. Unfortunately, this was the band's last release -- a premature end.

She assembled former Aemotti Crii members Tim Bricheno (guitar) and A... Read more
