    not worth the cost

    Pros: pretty box

    Cons: horrible support

    On a V90 dialup system the connection speed is so slow many pages will "time out" before load completion. USR support was no help at all. USR suggested the problem was with the local phone company and the phone company said the problem was ...with the modem. Problem was solved when I deleted the 5699B and replaced it with a $9. generic. Read more Less

    It's a long way to the post

    Pros: holds the line

    Cons: no mic or speaker connection

    I have a model 3cp5699a which I have been able to get to install under windows95a, windows98, windowsME and windows XP Pro. I've had it for 7 years. It's only a v.90 but I don't care. I recently built a new machine which I was suddenly ha...ving trouble downloading anything more than 2Mbs. I kept getting dropped, even just surfing the web. I tried everything, modem strings, new phone line, different numbers etc. So I took The USR 3cp5699a modem out of the old machine and put it in the new one which has XP Pro. Not only did it install, but XP Pro recognized it instantly even with the Intel(R) 536 EP v.95 in place, and I didn't even need the installation CD's which was nice. It's 25' to my post, and then 125 yards to the phone companies box. If you can get DSL that's nice, but if you have to buy a modem you'ld be crazy not to buy this one. When I started using this modem for surfing and downloads I stopped getting dropped. I had to laugh when I realized I was using the old modem to download the update for the new modem from the MS update site. :) Read more Less
