Synopsis: Two-Lane Blacktop (1991)

Synopis: The surface story is a quixotic cross country road race between dapper sociopath playboy Warren Oates driving a showroom GTO and ultra-laconic proto-grunge hippie gearheads James Taylor and Dennis Wilson behind the wheel of their primer gray souped-up '55 Chevy. In director Monte Hellman's hands, however, the raw materials of an AIP hot rod flick take on dark mythic overtones while becoming a quintessential document of end-of the '60s millennialism.

1 of 1 Yahoo! Users found this Two-Lane Blacktop review helpful This is one cool,groovey,far-out,outasight, 70's cult movie. Back in High school I owned one Hot Rod 55 Chevy. I watched this movie and all those memories came flooding back. The long hair,t-shirt levi look was "right on!" The street racing scene hit home base! Any gearhead raised on GTOs,SS-Camaros,or roadrunners will bond with the concept of Twolane Blacktop. I only wish that the movie came in smell-a-vison, then I could get High on the Smoke of burning rubber, somebody shake me! its 1975 AGAIN! ...

two lane blacktop is a great picture pure, arthouse cinema with a touch of the theatre absurb thrown in for good measure. a car movie! maybe on the surface. this is pure existentialist paradox cinema. it get my four star treatment.( I save the fives for the truely great/pure cinema) see it on a big screen if you can.
