Pros: Jazz and Eastern Raga...It works amazingly well!

    Cons: none

John Handy played an outstanding session with Ali Akbar Khan - these two musicians connected in an amazing way! There should be more linkage between Western music and North Indian Classical Music... This is a great album, and a really fun exploration...... Read more Less

Pro Reviews: Two Originals: Karuna Supreme/Rainbow

  • All Music Guide

Two Originals: Karuna Supreme/ Rainbow pairs the two albums that John Handy recorded with Ali Akbar Khan): Karuna Supreme, with Zakir Hussain, and Rainbow with L. Subramaniam. Karuna Supreme is a groundbreaking recording, succeeding on every level where so many other Indan/Jazz fusion efforts have failed. Rainbow (recorded five years later) is less successful overall, but still a fine album. Both albums were out of print until this twofer was released in Germany in 1994. This set is well worth the price, if only to have Karuna Supreme available on compact disc.
