Pros: Excellent playing and selection of tunes

Cons: I wish there were more, but I'm glad there is this

I was actually fortunate enough to do the recording of Pete and Conte circa 1982 at Rick's Cafe in Chicago on Lakeshore Drive. The playing, as one would expect from these two giants was fabulous. They were "on" and so was the rhythm sec...tion, consisting of Dan Shapera, bass; Wilbur Campbell, drums; John Young, piano. The room was electrified by these giants. Tune selection was great. Solos were thoughtful yet open and cheery. The music made me smile. Bebop roots were clear. I used AKG C24, Two AKG 414s, one AKG C451E and one AKG D19. Crown CX 844 consisting of 4 channels was used as was 1/4 inch tape. Thirteen years later Pete asked me to make a DAT copy for his engineer in LA to review. Upon hearing that I received a request for the masters, which I gladly sent out West. Thanks Pete and Count for allowing me the honor of recording you and preserving this materful evening of jazz.
