Sheryl Crow began her career as an artist by singing back-up to Michael Jackson. With the release of her debut album "Tuesday Night Music Club", she eventually made it on her own and established her name as one of the female rockers who wou...ld define much of the rock musical landscape of the mid and late 90s. Interestingly, the album's title was drawn from the fact that Crow and her collaborators worked on Tuesdays in making such. Bill Bottrell, the producer, came in fresh from success of producing a handful of tracks for Michael Jackson's 1991 release "Dangerous". The album's first two singles "Run Baby Run" and "Leaving Las Vegas" generated modest attention. However, with the catchy pop ditty "All I Wanna Do", Crow became a household name. The said single peaked at #2 in the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart in 1994 and consequently earned Crow the Record of the Year, Best Female Pop Vocal Performance and Best New Artist plums in the 1995 Grammy Awards at the age of 32. To add another feather to her cap, she holds a degree in Education from the University of Missouri. Proving that one need not be young and hip to establish a solo career, Crow added fuel to her fire by banking on the dark acoustic ballad "Strong Enough" which was a Top 5 hit and the Top 40 single "Can't Cry Anymore". Crow's musical stylings for her debut album successfully fuses elements of pop, rock and blues, a methodology in which female artists that emerged in the late 90s tried to imitate. An album of outstanding porportions that is now generally ignored by most in the population as an album that was best to be forgotten out. And I say this without fear of contradiction. The reason being: Well Sheryl thinks that she didn't write very g...ood songs on this one. There is a very good and quite funny reason for this. Reason being: She didn't really write the songs in the first place. Back in 1991 when Sheryl relocated to LA from Missouri she met some musicians almost by accident. She should have never looked further for more inspiration elsewhere. The other incarnations of her band notwithstanding coupled with her own compositions on her records since Sheryl (1996) have been a puddle of mud since Tuesday Night's lineup.Most of Sheryl's success is definitely owed to her one time boyfriend Kevin Gilbert who sadly is not with us anymore. After Sheryl was frustrated by the lackluster response of her first titled debut not to mention the head honchos at A&M records a little worried as well, Sheryl brought in Kevin along with his buddies and partners in crime from the Toy Matinee project. It was a group that Sheryl actually played keyboards with on tour (of which she refuses to admit having done nowadays). That is another story in itself... Along with new coherts, Sheryl co-wrote with Kevin, Bill Botrell, and Dan Schwartz. Notable tracks on this one include Leaving Las Vegas, All I Wanna Do and the very underrated Run, Baby, Run. Folks, this is a fantastic album from beginning to end, and if most have strayed away from this product because it isn't Sheryl's proudest moment (obviously because she sacked the band prior to the release of it) ignore the speculation. If you are the type that has not particularly liked Sheryl's later material, you should absolutely check out Kevin Gilbert's last album prior to his death called Thud. You will be amazed at how good Sheryl's material could have been had she continued to collaborate with this guy until his death. To late now......... Read more Less

Her voice-so beautiful,emotional,power
ful and expressive.Her songs-Storytelling of heartache, passion and love.Although I have loved every LP she has done I still come back to this one. It seems to make me feel a certain way that the others don't. (W...e do what we can) is one of the best songs I have ever heard. Of course all the classic songs (leaving las vegas) (strong enough) (all I wanna do) still sound awesome but check out (solidify) (I shall believe) and (Run baby run). Still holds up

While wandering the aisles of the new/used cd store the other day, desperate to blow twenty or so dollars I came across the the cd. I am almost embarrassed at how happy I became. I wasn't really looking for it, but I wasn't finding anyone else eith...er. Just a bunch of bimbo-cola selling front chicks. I own the tape, but decided to buy the cd anyway. It was a good decision. For all women out there who are wondering if there are any intelligent women with something real to say (who know bootylicous isn't even a real word), dust this one off. It will give you hope.
