Pros: Hard hitting and tender, all at once.
Cons: Constant question: "How would Quentin have done it ?"
This is my personal favorite 1990's movie. It features Christian Slater who along with John Cusack was my foremost movie hero's of the 90's. The only other Slater movie that comes near this to me is Heathers, and to a lesser extent Pump Up The Volume. Tony Scott directs with a firm hand, the story thunders along with a great soundtrack and fantastic supporting actors. Arquette is a delight and one wonders what derailed her career enough to make her a tv actress, but I suppose Slaters career didn't go anywhere either after this. If there ever was a movie that couples could go to, it has to be this. Brutal it may be, but also very tender and sweet.
A gem and a classic if there ever was one.
Pros: I saw it and I will see it tens of times
Cons: Qt doesn't make another one as good.
This is a true classic movie, which I enjoyed it every time I saw it. Every scene in this movie, every minute of it, it's pure bliss. If I would've played in it let's say, I couldn't be happier.
Pros: There is no other director working today who commands as much well-deserved respect (and gets it) as QT. We are talking A list actors working together, for probably a fraction of their normal asking rates just to have the opportunity to work under his "unique" direction and somehow he pulls 'em all together and makes it work, no matter the actors' regular "noted" acting genre
Cons: If you do not know by now that this movie, at the behest of this brilliant director, is going to have tons of gore and blood in it then you have no business renting it. The con: your mistake in renting/purchasing it before learning about the story, actors involved, and that it is a QT flick. That is your mistake ... not his. If you want to watch Beaches, then rent Beaches.
I'm VERY female, and I was raised on The Sound of Music, and I imagine QT saw it a couple of times as well. I was also raised on Patton, Shogun, Platoon, Das Boot, Schindler's List, Bram Stoker's Dracula, The Sopranos, Pulp Fiction, Blow, Resevoir Dogs and even Forrest Gump. What do these things have in common. They use A-List actors to tell otherwise unbelievable stories and make us believe them blood, guts and in this case, a lot of drugs.
Whoelese is gonna take Arquette and pair her with C. Slater, push them through one of the best camios I've ever seen from Dracula himself (Oldman), tie him in with Balke from P.Strangers, and a cameo by Brad Pitt as a toker who spills the beans on everyone - which is hard to imagine because there is really no plot until you get to the very end and, just like QT does so well, all of a sudden, it all comes together along with the blood and gore (although I must mention I did miss someone like the Bible-spewing Samuel Jacks
Pros: everything
Cons: nothing
The movie is simply just the best Tarrantino film EVER...!
Pros: Screenplay, Dialogue, Soundtrack, and Cast!
Cons: I can't find any!
I have to say this is one of my favorite movies of all times. Tarantinos script is beautifully written, and Tony Scott did a wonderful job with it. Anway, perfect cast - Christian Slater and Gary Oldmen were cool as heck, Christopher Walken and Denis Hopper were downright awesome, and Michael Rappaport and Brad Pitt added some hip to the movie. I also have to agree with the other reviews that the scene between Walkin and Hopper is a classic moment in Cinema history. In addition, the sound track is very impressive. Overall the movie is a splendid treat to watch. From start to finish your always wondering what will unfold next. You will definitely want to add this DVD to your collection.
Pros: Charactor development and storyline.
Cons: None!
A pleasureable suspicion of belief that has a rollercoaster feel that engrosses the observer. Each character draws the observer into their own perspectives and keeps the attention focused on the outcome of the movie.
Pros: Well portrayed characters
Cons: None , are you kidding
Its a movie that gets your full attention for the entire flick man... you got seee it
This was a perfect movie. A lot of violence, but it was GREAT, everyone should see this.
this movie really shows the depth of Tarantinos writing ability he mixes violance, humor and of course love. Tony scott did a wonderful job bringing Tarantinos script to life. The huge cast (people like Christian Slater, Patricia Arquette, Brad Pitt, Dennis Hopper, Val Kilmer, Christopher Walken, Gary Oldman, and Michael Rapaport) does a terrific job translating and putting the script into play. This movie is a great piece of modern cinema so go see it if you havent.
It amazes me how this flick didnt do better at the box office...great cast, great action, great scenes, interesting story, hip music. Ok, its somewhat bloody at times, but Tarantinos films usually are. Brad Pitt is funny as hell uin his role, Arquette is downright sexy as hell, Gandolfini is mean and nasty, and Bronson Pinchot and Rappaport are also great in their roles, as is Christian Slater. Sizemore and Penn are perfect in their cop/partner roles as well.
The scene between Walken and Hopper, coming from me, a full blooded Italian with 1/2 Sicilian roots, is an utter classic. Some Sicilians might not like it!?..BUT, the facts are true and Hopper does an A-1 job as a man who knows...well, I wont ruin it for anyone who hasnt seen it. I own this on DVD, and its one of the top 5 favorites I watch on a semi-regular basis.
By far this is the best best written, Directed, Acted, and filmed movie of all time. Tarantino deserves ALOT of credit for this film and gets it with this new dvd...he even gets to have an audio commentary part :) The cast list is so impressive, Brad Pitt in his best role ever, Cristian Slater in his best, Dennis Hopper in his best, Patricia Arquette in her best, Micheal Rapport in his best, and lets not forget Bronson Pinchot from Perfect Strangers, without him the movie would have fallen apart. Then you add Christopher Walken, Tom Sizemore, James Gandalphini, Chris Penn (Reservior Dogs), Samuel L. Jackson, and Gary Oldman. Name a movie with that big of a cast and I will give you $100...without naming another Quetin Tarantino film :)
True Romance is one of my top movies of all time.... Above all, the soundtrack is entrancing... And also... Brad Pitt in an unforgettable role... and James Gandolfini (Tony Soprano) has never been this mean. What a great movie!
TRomance has a blend of dumbass brained dialogue, music, and superwhimsy that makes it a great flick for all action and badass film fans. The "inner Elvis" dialogue by Slater's character could make Jerry Falwell want to talk to the King. Any schmuck on the block wants to feel like a politically incorrect as hell, ass kicking, blue collar gentleman, just like Dennis Hopper's character after watching this film. If you were going to go on a bloody tear the music would be a great soundtrack to the carnage.
I highly recommend this film for those who want to escape our reality and want to enjoy an aggressive mood.
This movie RAWKS!!! Everyone should rent it and just enjoy! I don't easily get amazed by movies, but this time I was totally in love with it!! It's a plus that Christian Slater is a hot s-o-a-b in this movie :) Quentin Tarantino, all-time movie creater :)
Tarantino's best dialogue. This movie rocks. The scene between Dennis Hopper and Christopher Walken is among the best in cinema history. Patricia Arquette deserved and Oscar for her roll as Alabama. James Gandolfini's scene where he beats the s*** out of Arquette is intense. Tom Sizemore and Chris Penn make a hilarious team as supercop detectives. Every scene in this movie is better than the one before. I could go on and on. RENT THIS MOVIE!
do not watch this film unless you are on crack...even then, I don't think that will help.
This is one of my all-time favorite movies, but
there was NOT any footage on this DVD that wasn't in
the theatres. I think they were counting on people
not remembering all the scenes, but they did not fool
me. Total bull
Aside from the lying, this
is an awesome flick.
Everybody needs to see this film. The allstar cast is exciting. The dialogue is excellent like all Tarantino films. Walken is in top form in this movie. Walken's scene with Hopper is the best!
