JJ Cale is somewhat of an enigma in the world of rock music. Depite his influences on such artists as Eric Clapton and Widespread Panic among others, Cale never reached the levels of popularity of either. Cale blends a smooth and atmospheric guitar ...with laid back vocals to form an uncategorizable sound. Although this may not be his best album, it is one of his best, and would recommend it to anyone interested in Cale for the first time, or furthering Cale collection. Read more Less

Producer Audie Ashworth introduced some different instruments, notably vibes and what sound like horns (although none are credited), for a slightly altered sound here. But Cale's albums are so steeped in his introspective style that they become interchangeable. If you like one of them, chances are you'll want to have them all. This one is notable for introducing "Cocaine," which Eric Clapton covered on his Slowhand album a year later.
