The Exploited - Troops of Tomorrow (CD)

Perhaps the best example of its genre!

Troops of Tommorrow got me into hardcore back in Jr. High school in the early eighties. It was the first hc punk album I had heard, borrowed it from my friend Scott who was way into punk. It was great.

This album, along with Punks not Dead, define the stereotype of the real hardcore punk of the early and mid 1980s. For anyone studying the history of 80s hardcore, Exploited are THE band to reference and these two albums are THE albums to listen to. Forget the American punk of the era, joke bands like the Circle Jerks or absurdly political clowns like the Dead Kennedys (who were musically garbage). No, Exploited were the most respected and influential band of the era among most kids at the time.

This album has many classics such as Alternative, Daily News, Troops of Tommorrow (a relatively mellow but brooding cover tune), and the crowd favorite USA. At the time this was a great one to crank up and piss off all the neighbors!

If you are interested in real underground hardcore punk from the early 1980s get this album and "Punks Not Dead." That's all you need to understand what it was really like in the sweaty slam pits ("mosh" pits for you young people) in some dumpy old union hall auditorium crammed to the walls with huindreds of screwed up pissed off kids on a cold 80s winter night. Man, brings back memories!

Of course, as someone else has said "the Exploited never go out of style, because maybe they were never in style in the first place." Get this album kids!
