    Love It Still!!!

    Pros: Great original renditions of historical greats!

    Cons: History dictates some of the older tracks low quality.

    I keep pulling this CD set out over and over again. Loaded it into my IPod and whenever a tune from it comes on it can't help but put a smile on your face. Classic tunes like "When the Moon Shines on the Moonshine" and "Hey Bartend...er" just bust me up when I least expect it. The later works like Cab Calloway and Samie Davis Jr. are wonderful. To actually have a collection with a smattering of great achievements put into a historical timeline is really enjoyable. It's a excellent way to not only get a hold of great classics you may have always wanted, but also learn about all the ones you missed. Begs you to dig further, which is the best tribute that anyone could hope to bestow. Read more Less

    This twoCD set is...programmed loosely (but not exactly) in alphabetical order; the first 41 selections mostly stick to early jazz of the pre1950 era, with the emphasis on vocalists ranging from comedian Bert Williams and Louis Armstrong to Cab Calloway and Sarah Vaughan. The final nine numbers attempt to sum up the past 40 years in Black pop music (jazz is notably absent)...and has performances from the likes of Aretha Franklin, Little Richard and Marvin Gaye. This sampler (which does contain some formerly rare early recordings) is a bit of a hodgepodge... Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
