    I'm Still Listening

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Nov 7, 2006

    Pros: Subtlety

    Cons: Formulaic

I bought this CD when it first came out. It is now
2006 and I am still listening to these 3 songs:
Still She Cries, It's Just The Rain, and Trial By
Fire. I just love the textures these musicians all
use, the way they play off of each other in these
songs. That type of interplay usually comes after
playing a song together over and over and experimenting. Steve Smith's drumming is just
pure pleasure to listen to, be sure to listen
carefully to the cymbal work in It's Just The Rain
and Trial By Fire. Sure Neal Schon sizzles on
the rock stuff, but listen to his great work on
Still She Cries and Trial By Fire. Johnathan
Cain plays exactly what is required, and it's
    beautiful. Simple but damn effective.
Ross Valory is perfect as always. I love the
lyrics on these songs, absolutely great song
writing. Steve Perry polishes it off as only he
could. Nobody could do it the same way, try
singing it at home and see if you can come
close to this type of crooning. Masterful. The
song Trial By Fire is so haunting that it has
brought tears to my eyes. Just Beautiful.

Trial by Fire Outstanding, Mature and Progressive

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Mar 25, 2005

Pros: Awesome Magick by Perry, Cain, Schon

    Cons: None

What can you say, about Trial by Fire other than its an incredible CD. I have almost all of thier Albums/CD being a fan going back to the late 70S and early 80's. I believe this CD is one of thier best, if not thier very best. The Hard rock, Ballads and everything in between. The Song "One More" is one helluva song, that sounds somewhat Zeppelinish but with the great vocals of Steve Perry( vocal range and ability to sustian notes is almost magickal) with Niel Schons Guitar playing is and Jonathan Cain Keyboarding is unbelievable. What Band puts out music 17 years After thier Most Succesful Album "Escape" with songs that eclipses most of thier earlier work? Almost None. Where is the creative limit of Perry, Cain and Schon? The Journey Continues with Augeri and Castronovo. But, God how I wish Steve Perry was still with Journey, keep the Dream Alive!

Not your Journey from the 80s

By Yahoo! Shopping User  May 9, 2003

I listened to a few tracks off of this album and I was kind of shocked. Its almost like a totally different Journey. Its still a great Journey none the less, but listening to it your first time it kind of strange. Journey deffinatly hasnt lost anything over the last ten years.

    Journey

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jan 24, 2002

This Album undoubtfully shows the magic that occurs when Steve Perry, Neal Schon, and Jonathan Cain once again come together. When this trio comes together, they create the most unqiue, yet familar sound we Journey fans know and love.

    KICKS ASS!!!!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Aug 15, 2001

This CD is sooooooooo good. I don't know what that fool who gave them a bad rating is talking about cause this one is awesome. Steve's voice sounds fantastic still. My heart goes out to him. In my opinion, Neal Schon is the best guitarist that ever lived. Listen to track 12(You can't tame the lion), and you'll see. I was bangin' my hand on the floor because Neal's rip's through scales like noone else I've EVER heard. Other very good songs as well, especially tracks 4 & 5, but I really do love the whole album.

    RE:what happened?

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jul 31, 2001

I'll tell you what happened. Steve Perry got Journey to reunite 10 years after their last album. Trial by Fire shows that Journey hasn't changed too much. If you loved them a long time ago you'll love them know. Message of Love is awesome as well as the whole Cd. When You Love A Woman is 1 of Journey's most beautiful ballads right up there with Open Arms. Steve Perry rules and Steve Augeri drules!

    What Happened???!!!!!!!!!!!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jul 16, 2001

This wasn't the album that I waited ten years for!! Is it my imagination or is this Perry's new solo album?!! I only liked 3 songs on this release and that was the first three songs, there were too many ballads for my taste. Is it my imagination or is Perry strugguling to sing he sounds terrible it is apparent that the years of touring has destroyed his voice, and it wasn't a shock to me when he pulled out of the tour. I give this album "one" star because I am such a nice guy.

    The GREATEST JOURNEY ALBUM EVER!!!!!!!!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  May 24, 2001

This album truly shows how JOURNEY has matured. It has great rock songs, and UNBELEVIABLE love songs. From "When you love a Woman" to "It's Just the Rain" this CD is top notch. Steve Perry sounds better than ever and Jonathain cain plays the piano beautifully. This is without a doubt my favorite CD.Oh, and just a word of warning, THEIR NEW CD "ARRIVAL" BLOWS!!!!!!!!

    Good comeback album

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jan 13, 2000

This is a very good "comeback" album from Journey. The line-up that recorded the classics "Escape" and "Frontiers" stick to their guns on this one. The players have all matured and the band sounds better than ever really. Drummer Steve Smith in particular shows that he can still play in a rock band despite playing in jazz outfits as of late. Stand-out tracks include: "Message of Love", "When You Love a Woman" and "Can't Tame the Lion." It will be interesting to see if Journey can maintain the quality of music with new frontman Steve Augeri and new drummer Dean Castravano.
