Synopsis: Tremors 3: Return to Perfection (2001)

Burt Gummer has been away from home too long. Upon returning to Perfection, Nevada, he realizes that the town of terror has been turned into a tourist trap exploiting the town's reputation as the home of giant killer sand worms. Burt Gummer has been away from home too long. Upon returning to Perfection, Nevada, he realizes that the town of terror has been turned into a tourist trap exploiting the town's reputation as the home of giant killer sand worms. When a simulated attack becomes the real thing, Gummer dons combat gear, loads of ammo and weaponry, and his Atlanta Hawks cap to go back into battle against the very creatures that originally drove him away. Not only does he have to deal with Graboids mutating into the frightening Shrieker monsters, but this time a new, possibly indestructible worm mutation is threatening. Michael Gross reprises his role as the gruff Gummer.

    Our story continues to unfold as the Shriekers metamorphosize into Assblasters. Walter's daughter Jodi is running Chang's Market. Jack Sawyer is an opportunist entrepreneur (Desert Jack's Graboid Tours), and the brash young Melvin Plug is... now a realtor, all trying to make a living in that little ol town in Nevada called Perfection. One problem though, THEY'RE BACK!! Enter Burt Gummer. I suppose if you hadn't seen the original, this might not be as good, but if you did and if you liked it, this should be an enjoyable watch for you. Read more Less

    I was a bit disappointed. The first 45 minutes are slow (so they can develop the new characters, give the returning ones enough to do, and put off spending their precious fx bucks as long as possible) and the acting with the exception of Gross, who ...resists the temptation to ham it up, is pretty bad. But the writing is still good so somehow you still care about who lives or dies. Worth renting if only to see what happened to the town from the first movie and what the third mutation of the worms/bipedal shreikers' life cycle is. I certainly don't remember any of the Jaws sequels being this smart in the science department. Bottom line is that "Tremors 3" does what the other two did, looks and sounds like a b-monster flick but is imaginative, doesn't take itself seriously without being campy, and has a some flashy special effects. Just don't forget that it still is just a b-monster flick. Worth a rental but think twice about purchasing. Read more Less
