The first volume in the Treble Revolution series is a long out-of-print cassette on the then-fledgling Kindercore label; the second volume is this 19-song CD -- the imprint's first digital release, one might add -- and it not only put Kindercore on the map, but it remains a definitive document of the Athens, GA, underground pop scene of the mid-'90s. In hindsight, the sheer scope of talent involved here is truly remarkable; many of the featured artists, like Stuntdouble, the Woggles, and Hi-Score, are already lost to time, but others, like the Olivia Tremor Control, their Elephant 6 label compatriots Elf Power, and the Mendoza Line would go on to create some of the most delightful pop records of the decade. And although not all of the bands are Athens products, the inclusion of acts like Beekeeper and Man or Astroman? hints at the uncommon ear for talent possessed by Kindercore heads Ryan Murphy and Dan Geller -- a sensibility that would launch the label to prominence throughout the 19...90s and beyond. - Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide Read more Less
