I FINALLY had the opportunity to sit down and watch Trantasia! WOW! This movie is a "can't miss" flick for every gurl, no matter where you are on the gender spectrum. It was affirming, encouraging, heartwarming and --at times heartbrea...king-- to see and watch what's gone on in the lives of some of the most beautiful t-women in the world. The pageant was used to tie everything together and, while I could have done without the cattiness and the bitterness at the end by the gals that weren't chosen as finalists, I really enjoyed seeing it take place. I'd definitely add "participating in a pageant" as one of those MANY "to dos" on my girly-girl list!!! The "up close and personal" vignettes were the BEST part as far as I'm concerned. In particular, the one on contest winner Mimi Marks was so awesome! To see her life history, to see her on the streets of Chicago, and at work was good. But the best part was seeing her at home with her "heart of America" family in Iowa. To see how they accepted her, how natural it was to see her at the kitchen table with her entire family, to see the real LOVE for her and the total acceptance that she IS a woman was wonderful. As a Christian, I often wrestle with the question of "Is this really what God wants in my life." So I was also encouraged by the open talk of God and prayer by many of the women.
