Pros: Good sound quallity, good clarity of picture, original music score was inspiring (if even a bit repetitive), giant robots on the big screens of America!
Cons: Editing on ending/resolution was just a tiny bit too fast; some scenes/characters were forced/unnessesary (ex: Bobby Bolivia, Agent Simmons, Ratchet)(backyard stuff was great, but bedroom scene w/ parents was bad, as was scene in police station); not enough screen time for all of the 'bots for character moments & interactions; during SFX shots, camera frequently passed behind foreground objects which hid key views of the 'bots in fights; 'bots seemed too weak/vulnerable against human weapons
********The Film (contains spoilers!)********
You have to watch the movie a second time to get everything; trust me!
Good pacing, though some shots pass by so quickly that if you blink and miss them you don't get what's going on for the rest of the scene. While [director] Michael Bay's style of shooting a movie is debatable, one aspect of it was really annoying- the camera would pass behind objects (cars, stone walls, people) during action-oriented scenes with the 'bots in view; for as few F/X shots are there were in the movie considering the budget, they should be given unobstructed views as much as possible!
The scene with the Autobots arriving on Earth was- for lack of a better word- magical. The pacing was great, the camera shots were well chosen, the special visual F/X were spectacular (Industrial Light and Magic [ILM] strikes again!), the sound was amazing, and the original score by composer Steve Jablonsky was inspiring. (Go get the OST disc- "Transformers: The Score"- of his music!) Letting him compose something original for the credits would have been nice rather than all that obnoxious & unnecessary rock music by pop artists that blows your ears off!
While most scenes and characters were good, there were a few that were really out of place or in bad taste: 1) Bernie Mac's [cameo] character in the car lot was a bit forced/too outrageous for the tone for the movie; 2) S-7 agent Simmons (actor John Tuturro) is too stupid for the movie's tone (you expect him to 'sober-up' and get real after he arrests everyone in the house, but it never happens); 3) Sam was right- was that [bad] cop character in the station using?; 4) while the Autobots 'playing around' in the backyard was fantastic, the scene where the parents confront Sam in his room was way too forced (the sex question was _completely_ unnecessary and used only for shock-value), and their 'concern' and paranoia is completely opposite to the father's behavior towards Sam only a few minutes earlier; 5) Ratchet's presence is pointless since he was unable to fulfill his role as field medic by saving Jazz (why bother having Ratchet in the movie if he can't be shown saving someone?). I could go on a bit more...
********Special Features (2-disc Special Edition ver.)********
While the features on that second disc are nice, the total amount of time is little more than an hour long. For most special-effects/
action-laden films, you'd think that a dedicated second DVD would warrant more time. There are a bunch of featurettes (at at least five easter eggs!), but each one is only about five minutes long on average.
Because there is so much going on with each 'bot, and so much moves as they transform, I would have liked to have seen stand-alone videos of those transformations and 3D spinning views of each 'bot because they just move around too much on-screen for detailed views like that. More viewable concept and pre-production art would have been nice. I would also liked to have seen some of the considered characters, 'bots, and vehicles that *didn't* make the cut.
Since this was a G1-inspired film, it would have been nice to explain to those who don't know a little bit about the history of some of these G1 characters, their origins, and some of the stories from the many series since the first in 1984.
Pros: great computer animation!
Cons: the slaughter of american troops kinda went overboard fo me and making the troops seem stupid
i liked the overall story and the computer animatics
however, i did not like some of the mature content that was in the movie. i woiuld have much rather had that they replaced all of it with more action and smarter troops that they portrayed to be stupid.
the only ine that seemed to have a clue was the captain wich irritated me.
Pros: great movie for adults and kids
Cons: dark and long scenes
i believe this movie to be the best movie of '07
Pros: Not child like cartoonie
Cons: Was not expecting the word masturbation.
The film was fabulous! The whole family loved it! The movie was not "cartoonie" nor "fake." The mixture of robots with humans plus the scenary was excellent. It all mixed in well together. The only one little thing that threw me off guard was the word masturbation. I was not expecting it and thankfully it flew right over my five year olds' head.
Other than that - FABULOUS!!!!!!!!
Pros: Kills brain cells
Cons: Destroys the accomplishments of humanity
This is a loud, annoying, racist, and mind numbing film. This is packed full of constant one line reaction dialogue and more computer intergrated special effects than most trilogies. If this is the future of film, and box office blockbusters, I don't want to be apart of the future. Do yourself a favor and purchase the Indiana Jones Trilogy also by Paramount, and get ready for the last great installment of the Indiana Jones Trilogy. Please I'm begging you, do not sell your soul to Michael Bay.
Pros: Storyline, acting, CGI effects and soundtrack
Cons: Nothing worth mentioning
One of the best movies I have seen in a while. I bought it on DVD two weekends ago and have watched it 5 times since. Maximum bang for your buck here.
Pros: Awsome special effects
Cons: Many story splinters merged artificially
While it is nice to have several seemingly independent story lines mingling and then merging into one big story, this movie often only gives tiny little bits of these story lines, and you have to be an expert about the cartoon stories to even know what they are talking about, and which robot belongs into what group.
The result is a story that sometimes confuses immensely, then the next scene seems to be very simple - outright stupid even. And then we are back to confusion again.
One example : The transformation from a yellow "shaggy" car to a shiny brand new yellow sports car - it is really not understandable, why the people in the car have to get out, then the "old" car drives away, performs some stunts, converts into the new car (same body style, size, internal structure), then returns and picks the people up again. What the ... ???
On the other hand the special effects are breathtaking. Fantastic ! They are the only reason (but a good reason) to watch this movie.
As the example above demonstrates - the story line seems only to provide the possibilities for the special effects to show off. But it does a great job in that regard.
Pros: Everything
Cons: Nothing
I loved this movie.
it was great.
:]
Pros: The entire movie
Cons: none
I was skeptical at first, cause normally I am in NO way interested in this type of movie; Not only was this movie totally awesome, but I didn't MOVE once off the couch for ANY reason while it was playing, and that isn't like me at all!!!! I usually am up and down a few times and catch a few zzz's too, but not even once did I come close to either, while this movie was on!!! I just hope there are a LOT more transformers to follow now!! This picture better win something at the academies!!!!
Pros: graphics, weapons, cars, everything
Cons: nothing
a really cool movie that stuns you every time you watch it.
Pros: Bought it for the kids...enjoyed it just as much.
Cons: none
Did not expect much from this movie...due to theme and premise. Excellent!!!
Pros: Action packed!
Cons: Very long.
Because I wasn not a fan of the cartoon, I was very hesitant about seeing the film. After watching it in a theatre, I was so surprised. It was full of action and it had a great story line. There were some very funny parts, surprisingly. I bought this movie the day it was released on DVD. It is a great movie to watch with the family, although, I do not suggest it for small kids. 5 stars!
Pros: THE BEST MOVIE MAN HAS EVER MADE!!!!
Cons: theres cons to this movie?????
the pros says it all.....
Pros: Good C.G
Cons: Bad Script, Shaky Camera, Corny
I went into this movie with high hopes. Not that it would be a masterpiece, but a good action film. I didn't live up to its potential. When the Transformers are outside the main characters house and his parents don't notice is where it went downhill. The script was preety cheesey, but most action films scripts are. The biggest problem for me was the action scenes. I couldn't tell what was going on for the life of me. The camera was so shaky that just couldn't see anything. I think it might have been kind of cool if I could have seen what was happening. If you like watching blurs flash across the screen then this movie is for you. If not I wouldn't reccoomend it.
Pros: Megan Fox
Cons: No story, Bad CGI
I just didn't like this one. There wasn't enough of a story there. The scenes with the robots had such bad dialogue! Skip this one.
Pros: Intertaining
Cons: See on a big screen
Not really knowing what a transformer even is gave me no advantage to this movie. I enjoyed the humor the transformers and the plot. I am not by any means a kid and I would watch this again! Raing a solid A
Pros: music, special effects, acting, robots
Cons: maybe the story
This film is totally a masterpiece and so intense. Everything about Transformers is outstanding. The story, acting, visual effects, action scenes and soundtrack. Michael Bay did an excellent job making the robots and putting them into the big screen. Transformers really tops out some summer sequels of 2007. Recommend this movie to everybody.
Pros: Good CG
Cons: Bad Movie
I thought this movie was ok in theaters, but on dvd, it's unwatchable almost... I quickly realized that beyond the initial shock of 20 foot robots (on the big screen, which I admit was cool) this movie is just a lackluster love story, introduced as an action movie.
Pros: absolutly freakin awesome!! im not into big action movies but this one was worth it!!
Cons: NONE!!
i want a transformer for my 16th birthday!! yeah i love Shia Lebouf in this movie!! kay im done...for now...
Pros: High Quality Scene,Robots So Real
Cons: Storyline too bad........
A movie that not have storyline was too bad, like a good smell food with no tasted.
Pros: great effects and storyline
Cons: few certain spots graphics got slightly rusty
It was amazing! The graphics were well done and I was enthralled the hole time. It's like you become a part of the movie it's self. Two thumbs up!
Pros: Some of the special effects, especially during the fight scenes were good.
Cons: The comedy, romance and other aspects really took away from the overal enjyoment factor.
Yet another movie studio has followed the most recent trend of resurrecting the 80's by making a big screen, version of those robots that transform into almost anything. Sadly, much like the original cartoons, this movie is really nothing more than a glorified advertisement for General Motors Company. Along with this, it feels like it is just one long, drawn out fight scene loaded with more than enough explosions to satisfy the bloodlust of any average moviegoer.
This movie is a guy movie for the most part, thanks to the noted explosions and seemingly continuous fight scenes. The fight scenes themselves seem almost unbelieveable at some points thanks in large part to the CG work. Not enough yet? There are quite a few comedic moments that while they are funny, they tend to take away from the believeability of the movie.
The last straw of this movie is the ever present, mandatory underlying romance subplot. This time it's between Shia LeBouf and his female counterpart. There was no romance in the original Transformers cartoons. So why put one in this movie? Why? Because no director apparently can make a movie without a romance subplot.
All of this aside, there are some positives. The movie starts out really gripping, with the introduction of Blackout (one of the Decepticons). He shows up as a military helicopter that had been shot down in Afghanistan supposedly. That opening scene was enough to keep any audience at laest watching through the remainder of the movie.
All of this being said, those who have not grown up with the robots in disguise, or who simply did not like them despite growing up in that era, Transformers is one of those summer "blockbusters" that simply did not live up to its expectations.
