    Beth Orton's Trailer Park

    By MRS.ASYLUM  Mar 11, 2006

Pros: Cosmicky sound that induces realaxtion

Cons: Reminded me of sad times and love lost

This album was introduced to me by my first love.He is somewhat of a music buff.I wish I never saw the sun chine was the first sond I heard. It broke my heart.I fell in love with the song and sang it many times while grieving the loss of my first love....The album flows and contains spacey and cosmic sounds that relax and help me to chill out.I often put it on when I greif and to remind myself of how beautiful life is and how we all (as a people) feel loss and sadness. It has a magical way of bringing you to the present and helping you to identify with some of the painful but true moments in everyone;s life. Not in a depressing way but in a healing and cleansing kind of way.It reminds you that it is okay to grief. This album is so beautiful and layed back.No jumpy chord changes or extreme highs and lows. When I listen to it sometimes I feel as if Beth and I got together for a few drinks and spoke of our pain and sadness in life.AFter wards we would rejoice in the freedom that allowed us to do so.Have a listen.I promise you will understand what I mean.Though it may not be your kind of sound the lyrics on their own are sure to soothe and help you purje feelings and thoughts you may have been stuffing for a long time.Listen to it and get back to me I am so curious to hear what you think.Trailer Park is one of my favorite albums, despite the hundreds I havehad the pleasure of hearing. Brilliant!!

In oktober 1999 I enjoined her performance in de Melkweg in Amsterdam. Perfect! She knows how to create an intimate sphere. Buy this album, with beautiful songs such as Don't Need A Reason and Galaxy of Emptiness!!

Pro Reviews: Trailer Park

  • All Music Guide

A folkie for the electronica age, Beth Orton brilliantly bridges the gap between acoustic songcraft and digital dance beats with her extraordinary debut album, Trailer Park. Fusing the plaintive emotional power of the singer/songwriter tradition with the distanced cool of trip-hop rhythms, Orton creates a fresh, distinct, and surprisingly organic sound without obvious precedent; blessed with a warm, ethereal voice capable of adapting comfortably to Spartan folk ("Whenever," a touching cover of the Spector/Greenwich/Barry-penned "I Wish I Never Saw the Sunshine"), buoyant pop ("Live As We Dream," "How Far"), and spacey, densely layered electronica ("Tangent," "Touch Me With Your Love"), she shifts gears with remarkable ease, the depth and clarity of her unique perspective connecting even the most disparate tracks together into a unified whole. Simply put, Trailer Park is one of the most promising and innovative debuts of its era.
