Traces of My Lipstick's sensual success

The platinum laced group has done it again with their third album. Here, the girls tone down and include fresh raw ballads with some uptempo cuts. There is not one song on this album that cannot be released as a single. Newer fans may have seen the ...videos for "The Arms of the One Who Loves You" and "My Little Secret", but avid Xscape fans know that this could very well be their best album to date. Hits like "Do You Know" and "I Will" will definitely be knockin' in someone's ride, yet the ultra-sensual ballads "One of Those Love Songs", "Softest Place on Earth", "Hold On", "Your Eyes", and "All I Need" can definitely increase one's sensual side and put them in the mood for some love. Whatever happened to Xscape. They should come back like New Edition did.

  • All Music Guide

On their third album, Traces of My Lipstick, Xscape pretty much follows the cue of their two earlier efforts, with only slightly diminished results. The group sounds as good as ever, bringing real soul and passion to their performances, but unfortunately much of their record consists of average, unremarkable material. There are enough strong songs (primarly the singles) to make the record enjoyable, but it simply doesn't have the same resonance as their two earlier efforts.

The quartet was formed around sisters LaTocha and Tamika Scott, who had grown up in the church -- their father, Rev. Randolf Scott, performed in the RB group the Scott Three during the early '70s.
