    Buyer Beware

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Nov 26, 2004 | 1 out of 1 found this Toshiba Satellite P25-S670 review helpful

Pros: just read everyone else's reviews

Cons: AC Adaptor burnt up, gadgets on left side don't continuely work, stickiness when entering fullscreen mode, short

Buyer beware, yes I said it. There are things about Toshiba's Satellite P Series that does not make me feel warm and fuzzy.I had to return the first laptop because of a manufacture defect. The original laptop’s 17-inch screen would short out (l...ose power turn off) when the left side of the laptop was tapped. That was weird but since I bought the laptop with a warrantee who cares. Well, I returned the laptop and two weeks later I was a proud owner of my second P25-S670 media giant. A few months later the gadgets on the left side (wireless switch, and audio connectors) would frequently stop working. However this was no big deal for me I did not really use the wireless and the audio-out could be made to work by jiggling the connector. Yes I have a computer engineering degree and I still jiggle wires to make things work. Now comes the kicker for me I love the laptop's features but I can't afford to rebuild my environment every time the laptop becomes defective. So now the current issue is the AC Adapter built by Acbel Polytech Inc. The AC Adapter has become defective. Ask me how do I know? Well gee when one plugs in the AC Adapter to the wall outlet it makes a beeping sound like the Clichéd bomb-timer noise. Oh yah the AC Adapter does not charge the battery. So I spent the day looking for an AC Adapter replacement. Why waste the time replacing and rebuilding a new laptop? No one sells a replacement. I went to 10 different stores in the MD, VA, and DC areas. So I have an expensive piece of junk that will be shipped back to Toshiba. I am sorry; no amount of the gadgets/features makes it acceptable for someone to steal my work laptop for 2 weeks. When I take my car in for defect repairs the dealership isn't like I hope you like walking because your screwed we found a defect. No I get a replacement, a rental that day. I need someone in the manufacture/retail industry to take defective product replacement seriously considering the opportunity costs to the consumer. I would NOT RECOMEMD buying a Toshiba P series laptop until this line has matured enough to be "defect-free".F
orgot to mention the P25-S670 media giant laptop is NOT so great when trying to view video in full screen mode. Sure once you get the software to switch to full screen mode you are fine. But here is the deal the Toshiba P25-S670 does not have standard monitor geometry. Ah-h-h what does that mean? Well basically there are special drivers that are needed to render the correct screen geometry so there is another layer of slowness. Can one deal with this? Yes but it is annoying to wait for full screen mode to kick in. You can expect lagging of about 20 seconds.
