I am totally disappointed in the e740. Battery life is a problem. I had to return the first one and the second one has the same problem. I have since learned that the e740 is being recalled by Toshiba. Would not recommend until the battery problem is... solved. Read more Less

What an incredible piece of !@#$%@!#$. Second machine in 2 weeks. Freezes up 2, 3, 4 times a day. Appointment reminders send the machine into a buzzing whirl until the battery dies and ALL data is lost. Second machine didnt last 12 hours before the s...ame thing happened and the battery went so dead that ALL data was lost. WHY IS THIS THING EVEN ON THE MARKET!!!! Compaq here I come. Read more Less

Serial number was not in factory recall list, worked fine for couple of weeks, then power went dead, i lost all files and info., sent in to Toshiba, when i got it back, worked for about one month, only this time Toshiba wanted $110 to fix. This was a... factory defect and they expected me to pay the price to fix. DONT BUY THIS PRODUCT, TOSHIBA SHOULD HAVE RECALLED ALL MODELS, ONE HUGE FACTORY DEFECT!!!!!!!!!!!! Read more Less

I've been a desk top user for 10 years this is my first hand held. It would seem to me they should have made programs that were easier to operate. The second thing I noticed was I use excel alot and pocket excel doesn't do all the needed functions of... my job hopefully they will improve on these things very fast. After talking with several people as hand helds go this ones the best. I,ll reserve total judgement and wait and see. It works for me and the wireless hook up is great. Read more Less

Like i just read a complete piece of garbage, i bougth it because i use to have a toshiba laptop and it worked very fine, but pda´s, another story, it crashes continually, sound went off, screen went off, battery meter give you incorrect information... all the time, poor battery life, duplicate files, the alarm volume is just tooo low, that anounced mail in rebate never get back, very poor customer attention, and the sad truth i maybe not a geek, but am quality enginner, this product NEVER should be put into the market, and im amaze because i use to work for a Japanese company and the quality criteria was a 100% good, to make a long story short, don´t buy it and if you have it, get rid of it ASAP because in the first place you bougth it because you need to have your important data safe, well, you no going to get it with this machine. Pros: wifi, that is could record things for hours

Cons: bad battery life

This is my first Pocket PC, i look up a lot of information before i got this product. I got it for $300 and its good of course it have the problem of freezing but doesn't your computer have the same problem, if you have extra storage card and sa...ve all your information you won't have to reenter the information when you reboot it up. i mean i its annoying at first but its not that often that i have that problem i mean i use this to keep track of my record, record talks, listen to MP3 and watch MTV video's i don't have any problem with it. I mean every product have its good and bad but bad mouthing it out is just mean. the battery life is not great but if you get a battery extender that solve the problem i mean its under $30 to get a battery extender and if you want i got mine for $7 only and its working great. the only reason you pc freeze its because you are running alot of the memory so it freeze so all you got to do it buy a compact flash card or SD card they are not that expensive you could get a Compactflash card for $44 and get $14 rebate so its good deal. check it out at ecost. later peopleso over all i love this new toy and its worth the money that i paid for b/c it gives me the convenience that i need. As a techincal persion I feel it is very important to let other consumers know about the stability issues with the Toshiba e740. I am very disatisfied with the stability even after updating the ROM from toshibas website. I love the features (802.11b)... but the model frequently crashes and I have lost all my memory severl times even in one day (with high use). Only after purchasing this product did I find major problems with it and also found other reviews with serious issues. Here is one example... search for stability and you will see they also found the same problems.http:/

The good, the bad, and the ugly.

After my Handspring Prism bounced off the tile behind my computer desk, it was time to go PDA shopping. This Toshiba has a $100 rebate going (through the end of March 03, I believe), so it was one to consider. The GOOD: I have a 802.11b wireless syst...em at home, so the built-in nature of it on the e740 gave it an advantage over the other PDAs at Best Buy. The Sony Clie also had 802.11b capability, and I did buy the Sony first. Unfortunately, the old Palm program that I really wanted to run on the new Palm OS 5 didnt function. So, I chose to go with the Pocket PC 2002/Toshiba instead. The BAD: The width of PDA screens has shrunk. My old Handspring screen was 2.375 square. The new Toshiba is 2.25 wide by about 2.9375 tall. Okay, that IS a larger overall screen, but the reduced width makes reading text like reading a VERY narrow newspaper column... it just feels a bit awkward. And youd better have great vision, too. The fonts on the Toshiba are TINY. The UGLY: The colors on the Toshiba screen are extremely washed out. I shopped for software on Handango and the screen shots they have on Handango barely resemble the washed out colors on the Toshiba screen. If theres a way to adjust them, its not in the manual or in the Toshiba online support. All in all, I figured I have the best product for me thats currently available.
