Pros: good digital tuner. keep your vcr tapes a little longer

Cons: vcr seems to be a little bit simplified

I have had the D-VR660 for about a week now and it does seem to do everything that it promises. I did have some setup problems at first. After studying my manuals I found it was not the dvd/ vcr combo that I had problems with, but how my television r...eacted to the connections. The support phone number that came with the instructions directed me to the internet and I did not find much help for connection problems there.Had to figure out my problems on my own. Everything worked better than I expected after reconnecting properly. VCR does record digital broadcasts from the tuner that is in the unit. Not all machines that I looked at had this capability. The digital tuner included has better features than the digital tuner that is in my television set. This is important to me because I am only using an over the air antenna and this was one reason I bought the Toshiba D-VR660 .After removing my old analog VCR and connecting the Toshiba D-VR660 my digital signal strength on my television went up on all the channels. The two cons I have found so far are that 1) the vcr seems a bit simplified. This is ok because I am probably not going to use it too often. I found that when you rewind tapes it comes to the end with a rather abrupt bang.I had a higher end analog VCR before this and it had a lot of great features I already miss.2) the remote included is not a universal remote , so I still have to use two remotes to control the DVD/VCR combo and the television. I don't think it would have been that hard to at least put the controls on the remote to control a television also,as this is not new technology. Overall I am very pleased with it so far. Great digital picture using the component connections. Read more Less
