Pros: Atttention to detail and documentation
Cons: None
The best of all the Pearl Harbor films. As a practicing historian I can also vouch for its authenticity (as opposed,
for instance, to the atrociously inept Ben Affleck treatment).
Should be required viewing, as should the discussion by experts that follows the film in the latest release format. Also recommended is the documentary, "Pearl Harbor: Surprise and Remembrance," hosted by the late Jason Robards. (He was at Pearl Harbor that fateful Sunday, and also appeared as General Short in "Tora! Tora! Tora!").
The special effects of Tora Tora Tora were excellent. However, I can only dream about the end result if only they could combine the awesome special effects from "Pearl Harbor" with the cold, hard reality that the script of "Tora Tora Tora" brings to the viewer.
This move is far more realistic then the movie
Pearl Harber. Pearl was over shadowed by a love story that had nothing to do with the events at hand. Tora was straight to the point with out the trashy love story.
This is a movie that makes us ExNavy personal fill good. It also goes out of the way to show both sides. This is not the big bad Japanees just bomb us for no reasons. Opening of the eyes to the point of wanting to find out more about the whole event not just the (me American) side. I think it should be required seeing in School.
Realism and believability are what this movie is about. At times you feel like you are watching the real events as they happened. "Tora!, Tora!, Tora!" honors the people involved. Disney's version represents all that is wrong with the current environment in hollywood. The art of film making and telling an accurate story comes before greed in this fine movie.
The details are ingrained in this movie to the point of boring those who are looking for a straight out, Hollywood crapper(ala Pearl Harbour). For those who want the facts, and just the facts, this movie will satisfy. To compare this masterpiece to the likes of the current crappy blockbuster is a slap to those who served. This is the real deal. No sappy and purposeless love story. War in it's glory and honor, shown from the perspective of both sides.
I've seen this twice since I saw "Pearl Harbor". It is so much more entertaining. The Battle scenes, as old as they are, are far more realistic. It is more accurate and it just looks better with real planes, real fire, and real oil smoke. Treat yourself to a GREAT movie.
I always liked this movie and I find this movie even better in DVD format and THX sound..A winner... The extra features and director's commentary was also an interesting addition
