    Good album

    Pros: you'll love this album

Cons: it doesn't last for eternity

This is the most radio-friendly album the Meat Puppets made. That's not exactly a bad thing because you will find yourself enjoying every song. I can listen to it all the way through and enjoy every second. To me, there is no real song that ju...mps out that I just have to hear, but the album as a whole just feels like a complete masterpiece. If you listen to it one time with a closed mind, you will hate it. You give it a couple of listens and let those choruses start to seep in and you will be hooked for life. Stick around for the bonus track, a remake of their classic "Lake of Fire", popularized on Nirvana Unplugged. Read more Less

    Too High To Die

A great CD, every song is good. You can't pigeon-hole the Meat Puppets' sound into one category because they range from psychodelic country to good rock-n-roll. Great guitar work on this one. This CD made me a fan for life.

Although the Meat Puppets' previous album, 1991's Forbidden Places, was one of the Arizona trio's finest, the band wasn't completely happy with the album's sound, courtesy of longtime Dwight Yoakam producer Pete Anderson. So on their second album for London Records, 1994's Too High To Die, the trio hooked up with Butthole Surfer Paul Leary to put them back on track. Not only did they succeed, but they scored a big radio hit with the melodic rocker "Backwater," and the release became their first to be certified gold. The electrified album opener "Violet Eyes" kicks things off, and immediately thereafter, the trio takes you on a wild musical rollercoaster ride. Hard rock ("We Don't Exist," "Station," an unlisted remake of "Lake of Fire"), blues rock ("Roof With a Hole"), ballads ("Shine," "Why?"), country ("Comin' Down"), and demented pop/rock ("Never to Be Found," "Severed Goddess Hand," "Flaming Heart," "Things") help make up perhaps the band's most musically varied album. - Greg Prato..., All Music Guide Read more Less

Meat Puppets

Out of all of the bands that made SST Records a towering force in the American underground during the mid-'80s, the Meat Puppets lasted the longest, surviving where other bands fell apart. the Meat Puppets never had the dedicated following of Hüsker Dü or the Minutemen -- two fellow SST bands who played the same circuit as the Puppets -- but they were able to carve ou... Read more
