Tony Crombie -- nicknamed "The Baron" -- was one of England's top jazz drummers from the 1950's through the 1980's, in addition to enjoying a brief career as one of the country's top rock 'n' roll bandleaders. His mother had been a pianist in theaters, playing accompaniment to silent movies, and his first instrument was the keyboard. He later switched to the drums and at age 16, in the middle of World War II, Crombie was playing professionally as a member of Carlo Krahmer's band -- so impressed...
