  • All Music Guide

The aptly named Tomorrow's Zydeco is an 11-song sampler from Buckwheat Zydeco's Tomorrow Recordings label and offers a handful of songs from Louisiana's Sean Ardoin ZydeKool, Lil' Brian the Zydeco Travelers, and several tracks from Buckwheat Zydeco himself. Those familiar with zydeco will certainly enjoy Buckwheat's studio and live contributions, which open and close the disc, while those interested in the future of the genre will want to pay special attention to the other two acts on the bill. The grandson of Creole legend Bois Sec, Sean Ardoin has updated his family's traditional sound, fusing his accordion with smooth bass lines and funky percussion, giving his four songs a decidedly RB twist. Similarly, Lil' Brian the Zydeco Travelers have embraced the urban groove of George Clinton's P-Funk incarnations, pulling together hip-hop boasting and funk guitars into their energetic mix. While zydeco purists may reject these new influences, Tomorrow's Zydeco is proof that the music of ...the bayou is constantly evolving while still maintaining its solid grooves and party atmosphere. - Zac Johnson, All Music Guide Read more Less
