    Accurate GPS

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Dec 7, 2007 | 47 out of 49 found this TomTom ONE 3rd Edition review helpful

    Pros: Inexpensive, accurate, portable

    Cons: battery life

The 3rd Edition is very easy to use and comes charged and ready to go with preloaded maps. Inputting directions is easy and the ONE calculates your route in seconds. The maps are very accurate and it comes with millions of POI's. These are great ...when driving in unfamiliar areas. The device is very small and mounts easily to the windshield. I would definitely recommend this device to a friend looking for an entry level GPS. Read more Less

    Remarkably Fully Featured Digital ATLAS

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Dec 22, 2007 | 45 out of 48 found this TomTom ONE 3rd Edition review helpful

Pros: Price, Durability, Mounting, Features, Ease of use, Comedic voices

    Cons: Spoken Street Names

Prior to my TomTom One 3rd edition GPS purchase I researched as many GPS units as I able. All of my co-workers own the Garmin products, most being the Nuvi 680. I chose the entry level TomTom for many six important reasons. First, this unit's mai...n purpose is a digital map that replaces my trusty ATLAS. Second, the TomTom is highly upgradeable with new features, maps, and comedic voices. I chose not to purchase the higher TomTom 920 because it loses text to speech when the down loaded voices are engaged (my favorite is Navtones "Candy"….w
hat a hottie!). Third, the 3.5" screen that takes less room on my windshield. Fourth, the mounting system is the best of all GPS units (this would count in a collision). Fifth, I was afraid to purchase a unit with too many bells & whistles because I would become distracted trying to operate the features instead of concentrating on the road. I give this fully loaded high quality unit my highest recommendation.

    Best on the market

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Dec 19, 2007 | 17 out of 20 found this TomTom ONE 3rd Edition review helpful

    Pros: Cant live without it

    Cons: none

Let me say I used the Tom Tom LE which is the same model with bluetooth. I used it going to California and the Nuvi 350 on the way back. The trip was more than 7000 miles round trip since we were site seeing on our way west and back. I never even rea...d the instructions, simply pulled it out of the box and began using it. It started with its own tutorial and even walked me through linking my phone to the unit using bluetooth. I could use as a phone, wheather reports for my current location or the destination I was traveling too. My wife hates electronic devices and forces me to do everything but even she used without one complaint or question. That all by it self is worth its price in gold. I have used all sort of gps devices and nearly every brand out there but none compare to the excellence of the Tom Tom. It even had a human voice versus Garmin's computer voice which is often hard to understand. Garmin is a local manufacturer and I always support local businesses however Tom Tom is worth the praise. I laugh when I see the Tom Tom commercial but it is true. Garmin has the best gps antenna's but the software is bad. I plan to buy another Tom Tom if Garmin does not change there poorly made software. The larger 4.3 inch screens make it even easier to navigate at night. Do yourself a favor, if your ready to buy now, then buy Tom Tom. In a year or two Garmin will be the leader if they change software vendors. Read more Less

    Tomtom should be ashamed

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Dec 26, 2007 | 16 out of 24 found this TomTom ONE 3rd Edition review helpful

Pros: works well when it works

Cons: must reset before every use

I purchased two of these for Christmas gifts. One at a local Best Buy and one online from Circuit City. Both systems booted great on first use, but from that point on requires a reset every time you reboot the system. Tomtom apparently knew that a nu...mber of their units were failing, but did not remove them from stores - instead deciding to screw the consumer. Do a little research and you'll find that apparently there are hundreds, if not thousands, of these units that were sold in December - and Tomtom says replacement is the only option. And of course they've shut down their customer service until January 3rd. Mine are going back to the store for a refund this morning - you should do the same. Read more Less

    Inherently defective

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Dec 25, 2007 | 8 out of 8 found this TomTom ONE 3rd Edition review helpful

Pros: User-updateable maps, easy to use

Cons: No support for common problem, needs to be reset each time

Once I got it working, it functions as it should, with all the great features Tom Tom offers. But after having to use a paper clip to reset EVERY time I turned it on, I looked to the web for troubleshooting. Turns out, it is a common recurring issue ...for this model. It has become known as the "White Screen of Death" because that is all you see without resetting. E-mails to support went unanswered, and it seemed this was also common amongst others who had the same issue. After only two days, I figured this wasn't worth the trouble. Circiut City took it back no problem. I would stay away from a company that appears to sell a defective product without recalling it or at least supporting it. Read more Less

Will never travel again without my TomTom One!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Dec 10, 2007 | 7 out of 7 found this TomTom ONE 3rd Edition review helpful

    Pros: Accurate, easy to use

Cons: US Voices don't use US terms

I bought my TomTom from the local Staples store. The salesman was very knowledgeable and convinced me that the TomTom was the best GPS for my needs and price range. I have used it on trips that I travel frequently just to "check it out." Th...e maps were pretty accurate, but did not have some new (opened within the past 18 months) major roads (TomTom indicated that I was driving in a field). I tried to trick it by deviating from its calculated directions and TomTom didn't miss a beat. It told me how to get back on track, but, when I took an alternate freeway exit, TomTom picked up with instructions as though they were the original directions. It took me to my destination and even recalculated the ETA. I LOVE IT!!! Read more Less

    Another Faulty Unit

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Dec 26, 2007 | 7 out of 8 found this TomTom ONE 3rd Edition review helpful

Pros: Great when it worked initally

    Cons: Poor customer service.

I also received one of these faulty units for Christmas...What a disappointment! I was so excited to get this unit due to the great reviews only to find out that TomTom knowingly kept faulty units on the market for people to purchase. Well, my presen...t will be returned and off I go to purchase someone elses unit. Thanks TomTom. Read more Less

    Disappointed

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Dec 26, 2007 | 6 out of 7 found this TomTom ONE 3rd Edition review helpful

    Pros: Screen resolution

    Cons: Battery Life/ Reset

I too am one who has to reset the TomTom every time I turn it on.....it's going back for an exchange! Sad in this day and age of mature IT products that this still occurs.

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Dec 19, 2007 | 6 out of 7 found this TomTom ONE 3rd Edition review helpful

Pros: portability ,ease of use, great value price

Cons: short battery usage; no turn by street names

the tomtom one has great stuff and easy to use; the first day i was right into it. the icons are there for you to touch and a child could operate it. This model still did not have turn to by street name as some of the more expensive devices have. b...ut still quite good in getting you there. a fine feature is if you pick a destination and then want to vary the tomtom quickly adjusts the route for you along with your plan. you must use the car charger however; the battery time only lasts about 2 hours, so a longer trip must have charger support. the other good think is the Co. allows you to keep updating it from your pc by using the tomtom program online. But a great value at what i paid for it only $145, when i saw it as high as $300. Read more Less
