Pros: Simple to use
Cons: After 1 Year it't a throw a way no repair
Can't be fixed and won't be by TOMTOM a company that does not stand behind there product our the people who buy there product once.
Pros: WAS VERY GOOD UNTIL UPGRADE
Cons: SERVICE TO HELP IS TERRIBLE
UNIT WORKED EXCELLANT. PUT IN UPGRADE. UNIT SHUT OFF & WILL NOT TURN ON NOW. CUSTOMER SERVICE SAID NOTHING CAN BE DONE. I NOW HAVE A PIECE OF JUNK.I DONT THINK YOU WILL PRINT THIS AS I AM A DISATISFIED CUSTOMER. I ALSO DONT THINK YOU WILL DO ANYTHING TO SOLVE MY PROBLEM.
Pros: Easy to use
Cons: Once the battery goes it's trash
After a year and a half the battery no longer holds a charge. TomTom will not do repairs once the unit is out of warrenty. Neither will anyone else. They directed me to Best Buy, Radio Shack, WalMart, Staples and Target for repair. They will not fix it either. If you buy a GPS get one with a replaceable batttery! This one is basically trash.
Pros: Easy to use, very accurate, great maps
Cons: battery life
I have found the TomTom GO 720 more accurate than the factory GPS in the Lexus and Lincoln. The maps in particular are terrific. It is extremely easy to use. I would recommend the TomTom over the other GPS I have used. In sum, it is a terrific and affordable GPS.
Pros: Quickly recalculates routes
Cons: It will show you a block away every now and then
I bought this unit from Walmart and I love it. The MapShare feature always keeps the map current. It quickly recalculates routes when you make a wrong turn. As long as you sync the GPS on the provided USB cradle, you will get a satellite signal almost instantly. If you keep the unit off the cradle for a couple of days, expect there to be some delay time acquiring the satellite signals. Every now and then it will show me one to two blocks away from my current position, even after I soft reset and update the unit. That seems to be the only quirk. It hasn't done that in a long time though and the hands-free speakerphone works great with my phone, even though its not compatible with the TomTom PLUS services. It even downloads your entire phone book from your cellphone into your TomTom. Lastly, I had to use it in an emergency to call 911. Not only did it dial 911, but it gave me a 'script' to read to the 911 operator to let her know exactly where I was and it also provided my exact GPS coordinates. This unit is a Must HAVE!!!
Pros: Solid, great looking unit
Cons: Points of interest is extremely limited
The TomTom Go 720 is controlled by your computer. If you disconnect before it is finished updating you will cause serious problems. The different voices offered on the unit are limited. Downloadable voices are expensive and limited also. Bluetooth compatibiity with cell phones is difficult. I had to bring the unit to Verizon to pair together. If you are looking for a unit with millions of point of interest - look elsewhere. This unit must be getting kick backs from Walmart, Target and a few other chain stores and resturants because those are the only POL available.
Pros: Features and Display
Cons: Software and Map Updates
I must say the navigation display is really good and it is logical to move around. The features are also plentiful and it was the least expensive of several comparably equipped competitive models. My problems started out the day I received it as a gift. Right out of the box, I tried to put my address in as my Home. Unfortunately, my address in this 3 year old housing subdivision was not listed. It turns out my map was out of date. I needed to get a map update apparently and this seemed easy because I qualified for a free map update according to the website. Unfortunately, the North American map update takes 30 minutes to download and it failed to complete, but not until the last 60 seconds. (TomTom's HOME software told me that there was an internal server error and to try later. Of course, the "later" was unspecified.") It turns out that there was still a problem with the website the next day. In searching TomTom's website for support (you can't reach anyone easily by phone) I noticed that the HOME software supplied with the unit was out of date and the website recommended upgrading it (still for free) to the new version (2.0). So I uninstalled the version I installed the day before and installed the new version 2.0. The second after installing version 2.0 I opened the program (after restarting the computer) and discovered that there was a new software update and that I should update to version 2.1. After the 'you've got to be kidding' moment, I installed v2.1 and attempted to install the North American map again. This time I received a software error message at the end of waiting 30 minutes. Having invested more than 3 hours into this, I took it back to Best Buy and instead paid $75 more and got the Garmin 660. I have had it for 1 day and it has all of the same features (except it works really well). I am glad I switched.
Pros: Accurate, easy to use, POIs, text-to-speech
Cons: mount
I've been using the GO 720 for a while now and have had nothing but positive experiences with it. I've used it on several long road trips and it has worked flawlessly every time. The 720 acquires a signal very fast and after you input your direction it calculates your route in a few seconds. I've found the maps to be up to date and routing to be extremely accurate. It's very convenient that the device has text-to-speech and reads the names of the streets instead of just saying "turn right." This is very handy in the city or on the highway so your not always looking at the screen. The 720 also has a built in FM transmitter which lets you play MP3s through your stereo.... very cool.
Pros: Map share, accuracy, POIâs, Maps, Recalculation
Cons: Too many features
I highly recommend the Tom-tom Go 720. My Tom-tom is not only more accurate and precise than my old system but it calculates routes that are much more efficient and economical. Their maps that are made by teleatlas maps are extremely detailed - it was able to capture a recently paved private driveway in front of my home that I thought no one knew existed! Iâve cut down the time on many of my routes, and theyâre not as complicated! My old GPS would take simple routes and turn into more complex ones. I now find alternative routes while stuck in traffic, useful shortcuts, and the POIâs seem almost infinite. Needles to say, I never switched back!
Pros: clear, best features, top of the line
Cons: only one mount option
The 720 is by far the best GPS unit I've used. It as functions like Map Share, bluetooth, FM transmitter, mp3 player, etc and it has been just as easy to use and understand like the other TomTom units I've used. The screen is very clear and easy to read and if there is any problem with it, it is that there may be too many choices in the menu to go through - but i think you can change that. Also the unit only comes with the window mount, but you might be able to buy something else later. 720 is a great unit for someone who likes having the best GPS on the market.
