Though he has never achieved widespread popular success, Tom Paxton has proven to be one of the most talented and certainly the funniest of the topical folksinger/songwriters who emerged in the '60s. Born in Chicago, Paxton moved to Oklahoma when he was ten. After earning a BFA at the University of Oklahoma in 1959, he joined the army, which gave him the experiences recounted in one of his best early satiric songs, "The Willing Conscript."
