Synopsis: Tokyo Raiders (2000)

Synopis: After being stood up at the altar, a beautiful model searches through Tokyo for her missing fiancee. Along the way she meets a disgruntled interior decorator and a private investigator (Tony Leung) on the same search. The three must fight off the Yakuza and learn the truth about the missing man. I liked the fact that they put more of an Americanized secret agent spin to it. The jokes were kind of lame but it was more tongue in cheek than a real attempt at major humor. The action was top notch though it could have been slowed down a bit to get more out of some of the scenes. The movie did have a certain flair to it that is missed by a lot of the more recent attempts at action adventures. ...

Users found this Tokyo Raiders review helpful My experience of Chinese action movies is poor like most American cinematic audiences, but I will dare and say that I know just a bit more than most do. This movie, like some Chinese action movies that I have seen, are syncretic (that they have two elements intertwined in one)in that comedy and action are transformed into one genre--IN MY OPINION. The movie's keen sense of irony and humor emmanate very well from the characters. Excellently, the plot holds the audience's attention because the most essential information climaxes at the end and with much surprise as to the real identities of the two men who surround the female protagonist. A good movie, and I hope video stores in this country would put more movies out like this and expose audienecs to other films in which they must look at the content of a film and shun it due to a language or cultural barrier. ...
