This CD is essentially a tip of the hat to Bakersfield guitar great Roy Nichols and includes not only some of the most talented players of the contemporary Bakersfield Sound era, but also fellow legend and the "Queen of Bakersfield" herself, Bonnie Owens. With talent like Chris Gaffney, James Intveld, Rosie Flores and onetime Haggard lead guitarist and Nichols intimate Joe Manuel, this makes for an interesting presentation. Significant players include Albert Lee, Paul Marshall, Doug Livingston and Jerry Donahue. Material from Buck Owens, Bonnie Owens, Merle Haggard, Patsy Montana and Melba Montgomery add to the sparkle of this release. Standouts include the Tommy Collins-Haggard tune "Let Your Conscience Be Your Guide," which includes Intveld's smooth vocals and guitar, and Robertson's version of "Cowboy's Sweetheart." A special treat is an appearance by the Derailers on the Owens-Owens classic, "Number One Heel." Ending this heartfelt lovefest from the West Coast to one of their own i...s Queen Bonnie singing her tune "I'm Glad You're Home." There is no one who can sing with as much emotion and honesty as Bonnie Owens, and she remains one of the most vibrant, expressive and beloved performers on the planet. As one of Roy Nichols' favorite people, Bonnie makes this project shine in both purpose and intent. - Jana Pendragon, All Music Guide Read more Less
