Also ich hab den film gesehen und fand den eigentlich voll cool. aber kurz danach hab ich des buch gelesen und ich muss jetzt im nachhinein sagen, dass der film übelst scheiße is im gegensatz zum buch!! nur mal als beispiel... werden personen die im buch noch weiblich sind im film auf einmal männlich dargestellt, und so en zeug... so kann mer noch en paar sachen aufzählen. ich würd auf jedenfall jedem raten des buch zu lesen des is nämlich echt cool

Having read in several places that others who had both read the book and then seen the movie were disapppointed in the film because it 'wasn't as deep' as the book, made me curious, so I read the book.
I think the movie actually improved on the book, which was rather lumpy in its action, and its explanations, except for when a military character, Gordon, explain quantum theory in a rather nifty way, the book was poor in dialogue, plot, and clarity, where sequence of events were concerned; this despite the author's conceit of putting in the time at the head of each chapter.
The film on the other hand tried to do right by the book, but couldn't be that dull, so it shifted some of the characters a bit, made a secondary character the hero, deservedly, as the actor playing the book's hero was a wooden actor. There was no love story in the book, just a bare mention that there had been. The movie provided a slim but nice one, and a happier ending than the book.
I like a happy ending now and then. Timeline wasn't great, but after I'd read the book I went back to look at the movie again, and decideed the director was right to change it as he had. Braveheart it isn't, but it's entertaining and the extra scenes were interesting. 4 Stars for a rainy night.Was this review helpful? Yes - NoHaven't read the book

Cons: Not true to the novel
I read the novel by Michael Crichton and was entrhalled by the plot and action. When I saw the movie, I was disappointed with how much of the original novel was changed.
Too much important information setting up the story is left out of the movie. The premise of why the professor returns to the past is completly changed. The background of why the nemisis is in the past is ignored.
Also, the novel presented the story as an archaeological story as well as an action story, the movie leaves the archaeological story almost completly out.
You would think that in a 115 minute movie, they could've included a lot more of what made the novel so good.
