Jeff Lynnes best work, then and now.

By Yahoo! Shopping User  May 21, 2003

This album signaled an end to an era for the Electric Light Orchestra. Although there were two more albums with Lynne at the helm, and several after with Bevan leading the way, none ever captured the magic and mesh of Lynnes techno/classical vision. ...From the song Twilight through Hold on Tight, the words and music blend to create a surreal vision of tomorrow, which for better or worse is not unlike the present day twenty two years later. By far, The way lifes meant to be probably signifies very much how many at the tail end of the baby boomers today feel about this world of tomorrow. Read more Less

    The New ELO

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jun 21, 2001

"Time" reminds me of The Beatles moving from commercial singles to album oriented songs. In addition to being less pop, it has a running theme. You feel Jeff is writing more for the fan and less for the chart. Another host of masterpieces from sad ba...llads like "Ticket to the Moon" "21st Century Man" & "Rain Is Falling" to moving songs like "Yours Truly, 2095", "Twilight" & "The Way Life's Meant To Be". This album still sounds fresh 20 years later. The one odd thing is that its hit, "Hold on Tight" didn't follow the theme, and ended up as the "Coffee Song" Read more Less

The different musical styles and use of the "extra" member, the studio, ELO gives a concept album worthy of any released by Pink Floyd, Alan Parsons...Flawless in "Time."

Re: TIME brings change..... to Nimbus

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Mar 15, 2001

Your right u dumb ass it did bring change it was their best album ever to date. but you messed up its perfect rating, how dare you disrespect rock like that nimbus9a , this album was very beautiful well crafted i think it is the best album ever made... the songs were so touching yet full of so much energy. not one bad cut on it. I think todays music sucks. i dont think britney spears or BSB or n sync could hold a candle to it. if anything if anything they were inspired by this album. well look at Mandy Moore even a few cuts on her new album been produced by Jeff Lynne, it probably was the first CD i had ever got and that was back in the early 80s. now today it sounds just as good. of all ELO albums this would be the one most recommended, to the dumbass nbimbus why dont u buy the CD and listen it to yourself. cause in the next 50 years this album will still spinning,Not BSB sorry buster Read more Less

ELO At Top of Their Game

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Mar 9, 2001

The album "Time" is ELO's equivalent to the Beatles Sgt Pepper's. This album makes a quantum leap in ELO's (i.e., Jeff Lynne's) musical progression which I think began hitting on all cylinders in "Out of the Blue" and went turbo in "Discovery". "Ti...me" is a fantastic journey, vividly portraying the feelings, hopes and dreams of a traveler of the future - feelings not unlike those of the present. Read more Less

    ELO Time

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jan 20, 2001

After buying the Album way back in the old days when records were made of plastic, I thought that this was probably the best Album done by Geoff and his mates that had ever been on the market. 20 years later I hold the same opinion and I just don`t t...hink that the "Back Street Boys" and Co could hold their own against ELO. TIME brings change.....

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jan 18, 2001

After the success of "Discovery", ELO put out half an album, writing songs for the movie Xanadu. While the movie was a huge flop, the songs written and performed by ELO were highly successful. The title track "Xanadu" (sung by Olivia Newton John) and... "All Over The World" were two hits for ELO from the album. The songs contained the trademark ELO sound, and were reminicent of the "Discovery" sound.1981 brought about the release of "Time", and a major change for the group. The mood of ELO seems to have changed on the "Time" album... the rich orchestrations and vocalizations take more of a back burner, and a highly synthesized sound takes precedence. This isn't the same Electric Light Orchestra sound that the previous five albums had produced. The strings had to make way for all the synthesizers on "Time", and the vocals are more "synthesized" instead of the multi-harmonies we were used to.Even the name "Electric Light Orchestra" is nowhere to be found on the album... the credit going simply to "ELO". The now-famous ELO spaceship was missing from the "Time" album, as was the trademark ELO sound we were so used to. The orchestra was changing musical direction, and attempting to try a new sound, almost robotic at times. The result was met with mixed reaction. For every ELO fan that enjoyed the "Time" album, there were just as many who didn't. While the album certainly had well written songs, and the hit single "Hold On Tight", this just wasn't the same "Electric Light Orchestra" we were used to. The overall album and production of "Time" wasn't bad. The songs were enjoyable and something different to listen to. It just wasn't the same "Electric Light Orchestra" any more. This was a different sound, and it took a while to get used to this new sound. "Rain Is Falling" most closely resembles the ELO from the past, and would have fit nicely in the "Concerto For A Rainy Day" from "Out Of The Blue". While some will argue that "Time" was an excellent ELO album, I feel it was somewhat of a letdown, and strayed away from the popular ELO format that took the group so long to polish, and made them one of the most popular bands of all times in the mid to late 70's. Great Stuff

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Aug 4, 2000

Why don't they make music like this anymore? A terrific effort by Jeff Lynne with soaring vocals, haromonies and sound. This, I believe, is ELO at their studio best.

Although this first of the 80's effort spawned only 2 singles, I was thoroughly impressed by the whole album. It is still one of my favorites.
