"TIM" is a truly underated film. Though despite AFI (Australian Film Institute) to Gibson, Kurts and Evison Tim was no critical or commercial success. This is a true shame because there a the question of weither or not Mel Gibson would ever have been taked seriously as an actor, if not for his first dramatic performance in "TIM". Piper Laurie also plays the role of Mary Horton quite well, despite being somewhat overshadowed by Gibson. Deborah Kennedy also plays an important role as Tim's loving sister who cares for him dearly, but resents any of his romantic involvement with Mary. All in all, Tim is a true masterpiece of the Australian cinema, with the good old-fashioned lighthearted romance. This movie was remade in 1996, with Candice Bergen in the title role. This remake is not worthy of further discussion. See "TIM" not only for the moving performance by Mel Gibson, but also for the sweet-natured romance between Mary and Tim.
