After several obscure recordings during the late '70s and early '80s, Tiger burst onto Jamaica's early dancehall scene in 1985; for the next four years he produced a steady stream of popular songs, including his first hit "No Wanga Gut." He was born Norman Jackson and claims that it was his fans who nicknamed him Tiger. A rather eccentric character, Tiger's lyrics are noted for their witty off-beat attitude that he punctuates with his trademark growl and other strange vocalizations. In the late '80s, Tiger became involved in drugs and he seemed to have hit a creative lull. He dropped out of music for a while, but returned to performing and recording in the early '90s, signed to Chaos, and has since begun to reclaim the popularity that was once his.
