Tortured adolescent Jeff Tword of Reed City, Michigan, founded Lo-fi black metal Thyrfing after reading Norse mythology in high school, and then hearing of another band called Thyrfing out of northern Europe. Being a big fan of dwarves and cursed swords he thought it an excellent fit, and started his own chapter of Ragnork (destruction of the world)-appreciation in west Michigan.
Their first single, the oddly-named yet hard hitting "Vitus Gerulaitis" in was released in December 2002 after several tortuous months of head-banging and recording.
