    way too many problems

    By David B  Aug 6, 2006

    Pros: a quick read

Cons: cheesy dialogue and one dimensional characters

This book was mildly enteratining, but in the end it was simply very poorly written with way too many holes. First, I just cannot empathize with Kevin, the main character. First, he spends the first 22 years of his life in his crazy aunts house where... he is not allowed to go to school, his books are censored, and he is forced to reamin "dumb" so he cant outdo his aunts real son who is retarded. Then all of a sudden at 22 yrs old he leaves and goes to college? How? Im sorry...but that just dont cut it. Even if this were possible, it would require an enormous amount of character, drive, motivation, and maturity. Kevin never displays this type of charatcer. He is whiney, spineless, and completely immature. There is no way an attractive FBI agent would be romantically drawn to him as the author would have us believe. Outside of Kevins crazy family, the characters are all "stock" characters. The FBI agents all display characters that are "typical". Dr John Francis is probably the most laughable of all. He sits in his "leather recliner" with his hand together so that "his fingers form a tepee" (Im not kidding..the author actually wrote that) spouting spiritual psychobabble no more advanced than what you would hear in a 6th grade sunday school class. Another glaring problem is that Ted Dekker has no clue how to get around the CHristian fiction requirement of no cursing. The super evil Slater hurls abuse at poor Kevin like "you perverted little brat" and "maggot meat" and "punk". There are better ways to avoid swearing. The story had some potential, but poor writing left it at just that...potential. Read more Less

    Another of Ted Dekker's Best

    By Chris  Jun 30, 2006

Pros: excellent thriller, keeps you guessing, stands on it's own

Cons: Can't think of any, pretty complete book.

Ted Dekker has proved himself a master storyteller in this suspense filled volume. Having read many of his other books, this is still one of the ones I turn to as exemplary of that which distinguishing him from other popular writers. It's not onl...y an entertaining page turner, but also provides a fascinating twist in the end (a skill that has come to characterize Dekker's works) that ties in the whole story to a valuable spiritual principle that can serve to enrich your understanding of the internal struggle that goes on inside each and every one of us. Publisher Notes: Thr3e

  • The award-winning, best-selling suspense masterwork, now a major motion picture event.

Enter a world where nothing is what it seems. Where your closest friend could be your greatest enemy.

Kevin Parson is alone in his car when his cell phone rings. A man calling himself Slater offers a deadly ultimatum: "You have exactly three minutes to confess your sin to the world. Refuse, and the car you're driving will blow sky high." Then the phone goes dead.

Kevin panics. Who would make such a demand? What sin? Yet not sure what else to do, Kevin swerves into a parking lot and runs from his car. Just in case.

Precisely three minutes later, a massive explosion sets his world on a collision course with madness. And that's only the first move in this deadly game.

From the #1 best-selling fiction author comes a powerful story of good, evil, and all that lies between.
