Pro Reviews: This Land Is Your Land [Living Era]

EXPERT RATING:

From AMG Reviews

Legendary American folk singer Woody Guthrie is remembered on this Living Era compilation This Land is Your Land, with tracks recorded between 1940 and 1947. Several of Guthrie's bestknown songs are here including "Pretty Boy Floyd," "Pastures of Plenty," and "This Land is Your Land," along with the extraordinary 12 tracks known as the Dust Bowl Ballads. Guthrie lived through the hardship of the Oklahoma Dust Bowl of the '30s and documented the poverty and loss he witnessed on such gripping tracks as "Dusty Old Dust (So Long, It's Been Good to Know Yuh)," "Blowin' Down This Road (I Ain't Gonna Be Treated This Way)," "Tom Joad," and "DoReMi." Originally recorded for RCA Victor on April 26 and May 3 of 1940, The Dust Bowl Ballads were the only time Guthrie recorded for a major record label. This is a perfect introduction for those unfamiliar with Woody Guthrie or with the roots of American folk music.
