Pros: Hilarious, Classic, Complex Comedy
Cons: Dated, Slow at times
This is a classic of comedy, a "documentart" following England's Loudest Band as they tour the states. Luckily, they're a bunch of dimwitted buffoons, with greater opinions of themselves than those of their fans. Watch as they promote their new albulm "Smell the Glove", meeting hilarious mishaps, inconveniences, and annoyances. Also, there's a monument in danger of being trampled by a dwarf. The "Directors Commentary" is hilarious in it's own right, as the members of the band are back in the present day to comment on the documentary. Watch this and understand why it is such a cult classic.
Pros: A funny mockumentary of the rock'n'roll lifestyle
Cons: I wish they would do a sequel
This is one of the funniest movies I have ever seen.
The characters that Michael McKean, Harry Shearer and Christopher Guest portray are some of the funniest they have ever created.
The best part is...they wrote, performed and recorded all of their songs themselves.
The bonus for this DVD is the commentary done by McKean, Shearer, and Guest as their characters commenting on the movie.
Absolutely hysterical.

Pros: Classic movie, great DVD
Cons: None!
If you're reading this, you already know this is one of the most hilarious movies ever made. So here's why you should buy the DVD. The commentary track is the most original I've ever heard - it's the three main actors doing it in character, looking back on the movie now that they're older and "wiser." In addition, the deleted scenes when watched straight through on their own, run almost as long as the actual movie! It's practically a second movie that you could say runs concurrently to the original. Tonight I'm gonna rock you tonight!
Hmmm... What can I say, this is the funniest and coolest movie ever!
this is possibly the best movie i have ever seen. all my friends that i have shown it to have loved it with a passion. i think that i will love this movie until the day i die.
chase
when you consider that much, if not all, of the dialogue was improvised, in addition to the general absence of a "script", the sheer brilliance of this movie is obvious. absolutely hilarious...
This one is at the top of the heap. Shhh... Listen, you hear the sustain?
I don't hear anything...
...Well... you would... if it was in your video player.
I love this movie!!!!! It is the best comedy ever, and the basses that "Derek Smalls" uses are pretty cool too! The songs are hilarious, but I think it'd sound better in dubly.
I never saw this movie until recently (and that
with my heavy metal past...) but it wasn't as funny as
I'd hoped.
But I think it's the little
things.. and that means I need to watch it a few more
times... the little things that only true heavy metal fans
would know...
Who ever said, "Spinal Tap, the world's loudest band.." must have been asleep when they said it!
If your looking for loud, check out Zao!!
they are definatly the loudest i've ever heard.
the BEST spoof documentary ever made. Nuff Said.
This movie is a riot...not a quiet one either
One of my favorite movies. Does a great job lampooning an industry that takes itself way too seriously anyway. Gotta go get the DVD, it's been too long since I've seen it...
Years ago, I finally bought this movie on VHS
after having seen it almost 20 times.
I used the
index feature of my VCR to index only the funny parts.
I wound up indexing about 50 sections and then
realized that this movie is a non-stop series of set-ups
and punchlines. This movie is so well scripted, that
the jokes never overshadow the plot and character
development.
Every moment of this movie, from the visuals to
the dialogue to the lyrics of the songs, takes a bite
out of something or someone. It's somewhere between
Mozart and Bach---it's Mach!
Those who lived
through the heart of the heavy-metal hair band era may
appreciate this more than younger viewers, but anyone who
has followed the rise and fall of a rock and roll
band will enjoy this film. If you've ever been *in* a
band, you will recognize every character.
Solid
DVD transfer, great sound, and loads of extras, right
down to the band's commentary on the blackness of the
black before the main menu.
Double-feature tip:
Watch it back to back with Bob Dylan: Don't Look Back,
a classic documentary of Dylan's '65 tour of the
UK.
I give it 6 stars, cause 6 is one louder than 5
It's the kind of movie you watch with friends and spend the next week spouting movie lines in shoddy British accents to each other. Definately a classic.
Not the first "mockumentary", but easily the best and most influential, This is Spinal Tap showcased the brilliant improv talent of McKean, Guest and Shearer, as well as the impressive direction of Rob Reiner. Although it was released over 15 years ago, it still stands against any modern comedy as a witty satire of documentaries, rock and roll music, and the pompous fools who make it.
This is the funniest movie ever made! Rent it, buy it, steal it, do what you have to do, but definitely see it!!!
This is a classic. It's like the Who, meets Zepplin and stage gimmickry of KISS with a sub-plot John and Yoko thing. Oh! The good things that mother makes. Buy Tap and tap into America! Rock and roll doesn't die, it's got to multiply. Great Perfromances! Hilarious! Mock-rockumentry! Hands down the best film ever made about this contemporary enigma we call rock and rool. Heavy Metal Massacre artistes' de destruction Spinal Tap roll through their fleeting comback tour of America and discover the molten genius that fows through the comedic brains of Harry Shearer, Christopher Guest and Michael McKean! Stonehenge! Exploding drummers and more! I like this movie a lot. You will buy the amazing soundtrack, too.
