This 3 disc set was eagerly snapped up by GFR fans still waiting on most of their catalog to appear in the US. While it offered an excellent selection of the band's well known hits and album cuts, it falls down hard with some other choices. Case ...in point: a 1982 live cover version of The Animals "We Gotta Get Out Of This Place". Why this is here makes no sense. This version of the band made a half hearted stab at a reunion in the early 80's, recording two mediocre albums and breaking up again without breaking a sweat. Why you'd dip into a live recording for a lousy ( Mark Farner is, vocally, in over his head , here ) version of a cover song is beyond me. Why not pull an original recording from that same tour ? Then there's three undistinguished "new" songs. None of them drew more than a yawn from me and I'll bet that's true of most GFR diehards. Some early pre-GFR versionsof well known cuts were fun to hear, even if they were roughshod and more than a little amateurish.Anyway, I'm laboring too much on the few miscues here. The rest is a dynamite set that features a monstrous live version of "Inside Looking Out" from deep in the tape vaults. This version of the vaunted lengthy concert jam ( an Animals cover that really works ! ) trumps all others. Comprehensive, afforably priced, with great packaging and rich, clean mastering...this set is a fabulous gift for those who love GFR !! Read more Less

    GFR scores big

this anthology set shows that GFR is the greatest rock and roll band. The only dissapointment is that there was not more material on the disk. Long live GFR. Come out of retirement and write us some more good music.
