    A Total Disappointment

This movie played like a cross between a second rate mytharc episode and ALIEN.Considering the script wasn't even completed when shooting commenced, its no wonder. This movie is an example of what greed does.Fox and The X-Files Producers apparently th...ought the fans of the show would buy anything they half heartedly spewed forth and apparently they were right. The movie did make $180 Million but at a cost of $60 million to make, it wasn't a mega hit. A weak script coupled with some smarmy Mulder & Scully dialogue doesn't make for an intelligent movie. And the Dallas explosion looked like the special effects people copied it from the Oklahoma bombing, which I consideroffensive.Avoid this drekfast at all costs, and purchase the DVD Collections of the early seasons back when the writers knew how to write a truly innovative show. Quality X-Files Episode

    By Gareth  Feb 11, 2000 | 1 out of 1 found this The X-Files (1998) review helpful

Fans of the series should love this. It has everything the series has but is bigger, bolder and .. well .. you get the picture. I love the X-Files and this movie, while it didn't soar to the heights it claimed it would (you don't really find out any...thing more than you do watching the series), is more than worth watching. Agents Mulder and Scully once again find themselves facing familiar foes (Cigarette Smoking Man etc) but this is done with such a slick style that it doesn't really matter that we've basically seen this all before. The X-Files has always been essential viewing and this movie does nothing to change that. The set pieces are handled well and Anderson and Duchovny translate perfectly to a film setting (and the film even allows their supressed passions come to a boiling point). All in all, a spot on slice of entertainment.
