"You open the door with the key of imagination..." Truer words were never spoken about the nature of Rod Serling's classic TV series. 1950s SF television may never have conceived of CGI. But take the episode "Eye of the Beholder." Using little mo...re than direction which creatively uses shadows as well as an impressive performance from a lead character whose face is covered in bandages for practically the entire episode, this show became one of the series' milestones. (The series "Felicity" seriously referenced this episode for one show.) Imagination and where it led the viewer...that's why Serling's series remains memorable. What if you were trapped in an empty town and had no idea or clue how you got there or how to leave (Where Is Everybody?)? What if you could make the words you wrote literally come alive (A World Of His Own)?So look beyond the series' requirement of having surprise endings and its occasionally cheap (for 2001) appearance. Look instead at the performance of Keenan Wynn (A World of His Own), or the subtle direction of "Eye of the Beholder." If you do and you like what you see, you'll be happy to revisit the Twilight Zone on a regular basis. Read more Less
