    Al Franken's "The Truth"

By Anna Grady  Apr 27, 2006

    Pros: exposed lies

    Cons: made me mad

Franken's book is another exposure of the web of lies that right-wings in power weave and the horrible people many of them really are and what really goes on in our government. Franken, as usual, is hilarious when exposes the current government ...for what it is. It gave many detailed, well-researched accounts but oh how they'll anger you. Great read. Funny. Recommended to readers of current events or politics and people with controlled blood pressure. 6/10 Read more Less

    The Truth about the Truth

    By Joe  Dec 19, 2005

    Pros: Interesting political insight

Cons: Probably a waste if you're not already leaning towards Liberal

I read this book on the recommendation of a friend who had read Al's last book 'Lies...' I will admit to a slight liberal bias, but I consider myself more of a moderate. By that I mean Sean Hannity and Bill Mahr are both equal whackos as ...far as I'm concerned. I was impressed with the detail Al goes into in his 'debunking' of right wing propoganda. Most of us seem to have a political opinion, but can't stand up with detail as to why we have that opinion. Al seems to be able to drill into a situation and give specific examples of why what was said was untrue, where the stories came from, and how they played out. The best part is he has the ability to use humor to keep your interest through what is arguable boring material. The level of detail is quite high, you see. In order to get through it all, you need some breaks. I spent a lot of time wondering if the references he cites were actually what he said they were (he mentioned quite often that the right wing takes things out of context), but at the back of the book are specific references for the initiated (I'm not one of them!) I wound up reading the entire book in about a week at bed time. I recommend it, if only to balance what you hear on conservative radio. Read more Less

Pro Reviews: The Truth (with Jokes)

  • Enhanced Muze Note

And yeah, it's funny. Which is important....Franken's got plenty of humor techniques in his quiver and most of them work.

  • Enhanced Muze Note

While Franken writes with a razor-sharp wit, his intention is deadly serious....Franken has the ability to entertain, illuminate and motivate.

Publisher Notes: The Truth (with Jokes)

  • Al Franken is athe perfect guy to write a book attacking Americaas nasty, mean, vicious right-wing pols, pundits and preachers, a wrote "The Washington Post" in its review of "Lies," aBut his book barely scratches the surface of the Bush administrationas well-documented mendacity... Looks like Franken will have plenty of material for a sequel.a

The Republicans won the White House and Congress in November. In Fall 2005, Al Franken strikes back. His new book picks up where "Lies" and "The Al Franken Show" leave off. Armed with an arsenal of facts and research (and comedy ), Al is ready to take the fight to the Bush administration and their right-wing cronies. Intelligent, insightful, inspiring, and laugh-out-loud funny, Alas hard-hitting work of political satire is poised to become the most talked about book of the year.
