One of the best war movies

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Sep 3, 2003 | 1 out of 1 found this The Train (1965) review helpful

I rented this thru netflix and I loved this movie. The story and acting was superb. The special effects were out of this world. Its terrible movies like this aren't in the top 100 movies made. Its terrible that a movie like this takes a back seat... to movies like saving private ryan and all the other modern day mediocre movies. If your looking for good movies, try netflix. 15000 dvd's for rent. For $20 you can rent as many as you can watch a month. I get about 15 movies a month for $20. Free shipping back and forth. "The Train" is certainly one of the best war movies I have ever seen. This is truly a masterpiece. The story is breathtaking and the cast (episodic roles included) is absolutely superb. Two thumbs up -- you will not be disappointed!

Pros: The best and last black and white action picture

    Cons: N/A

Bert Lancaster the greatest actor for doing his own stunts. This film with the narration of director John Frakenhiemer, is truly fantastic in how they made this picture in France with French actors and actresses. The train wreck which is staged was o...ne of the best and last train wrecks for film, the train was going faster than it was suppose too, and the results turned to the directors favor with a camera which was placed in the ground, wait till you see this! Having visited Paris and seen the many Musee (museums) I now have a whole new respect for this movie, base on a true story, not quite as dramatic as the picture but I am sure just as heroic. A classic line from the French railroad man when asked by the musee curator asking for help, he says, “don’t you have copies of them?” A clear signal that even a normal French man did not see the value of a fine painting, Monet, Van Gogh, Picasso, etc. All aboard for an exciting ride on the train bound for Germany with the world’s paintings loaded on board.
