On August 20th 1973, police were dispatched to the remote farmhouse of Thomas Hewitt, a former head-skinner at a local slaughterhouse in Travis County, Texas. What they found within the confines of his cryptic residence was the butchered remains of 33 victims, a chilling discovery that shocked and horrified a nation in what many still call the most gruesome mass murder case of all time. Brandishing a chainsaw and wearing the grotesque flesh masks of his victims, the killer became forever known as "Leatherface" when sensational headlines were splashed across newspapers throughout the state of Texas: "House of Horrors Stuns Nation - Massacre in Texas." Police and FBI eventually gunned down a man wearing a leathery mask and declared they had their killer and abruptly closed the case. However, in the years that followed, many close to the grisly murder case would come forward to level accusations that police had botched the investigation and knowingly killed the wrong man. Now, for the first time, the only known survivor of the killing spree has broken the silence and come forward to tell the real story of what happened on that deserted rural Texas highway when a group of five young kids inadvertently found themselves besieged by a chainsaw wielding madman who would leave a trail of blood and terror that would forever be known as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

    Pros: Lots of style

    Cons: Remakes usually stink.

I was prepared to hate a remake of TCM. Remakes as a general rule usually stink (Psycho comes to mind!!!!)I saw the trailer & thought if this wasn't Texas Chainsaw... it looked pretty good. I didn't see the new one in Theatres. I didn't w...ant to patronize what had to be a bastardization of the original. When I first saw it, it couldn't possibly live up to the hype.Later I came to appreciate it more. The original did a lot on a small budget. It was scary, relentless and loud (all that screaming !!!!) I waited for DVD & was surprised. It's not a remake but more of a retelling or reinvention. The 2nd disc is loaded with extras. It covers all aspects of the making of the new TCM. Usually deleted scenes are better left out. These ones would've enhanced this one. The alternate opening & closing ones were interesting but were best changed. One alternate death scene was pretty wild!! I really liked the teaser trailer used to sell the Film before it was even made. We're told it was banned from being used theatrically. There are lots of difference between this & the original, from the Hitchiker to Leatherface's Family.I don't want to spoil it for You.In a year of lame Horror Films (Gothika, House of the Dead)this is worth seeing!!!! Pros: a man in a mask made out of flesh with a chainsaw

Cons: i wondered what that basement smelt like???(lol)

I didn't find this movie as an exact remake. This seemed like a vision by Michael Bay. Nothing could beat the orginal but this makes me satisfied. I don't care about those uptight movie critics, or these so-called "Vetrans to scary movie...s", this movie was not made an exact remake. The people don't want to see the same exact movie only with better picture, they want to see a new type of this movie. We aren't comparing this movie to the old one, this is just a seperate review (In general). Of course if you compare this movie to the original TCM, the new TCM wouldn't be as good. In fact no other movie could beat this. I can agree, the new teen slashers are getting old and a bit cheesy. The new Texas Chainsaw Massacre is just a wake up call, and let us remember how scary horror movies really are. Read more Less
