, May 8, 2002Reviewer: genma27 - See all genma27's reviewsThe Storm Riders really surprised me. Getting it after seeing a convincing trailer I was impressed with the production values. The sfx, costumes, props, and scenery are all good in relativity to hk standards, with the sfx excelling in its department. However, the plot drags, the movie could have been cut thirty minutes or so, the martial arts, if you can call the fight scenes martial arts, are rather pathetic and use the crutch of sfx too much. Fairly well acted, expect sultry love looks and a lot of male brooding. What saves the Storm Riders is its style, hk badboy at its peak. Not bad, not good, but somehow enjoyable. Warning: Don't be fooled by your first viewing. ...

Pros: There are more special effects here than any Hollywood movie...
Cons: There are not enough subtitles in this DVD especially in the "special features" section for those of us who don't speak Chinese...

The casting of the stars for the characters are just perfect but my favorite is Sonny Chiba. I thinks he's great! Arrgh! Chiba! ...
