    Pros: all

    Cons: …

great album. "fun house" is even better.
there's some classic songs in here : 1969, I wanna be your dog or no fun. they still sound a bit like a mix between the doors, the velvet underground and some others but they definitely had already their own sound, a sound that would define punk rock and rock music as well, for decades.
if u like it, then u should check their second album fun house (and raw power)

this isn't a discussion board, this is where you say what you think of the music, not where you comment on other peoples comments, you got that geek-boy?

    The defining punk album

By Yahoo! Shopping User  May 30, 2001

This is the one that started it all, a great dedication to teenage delinquency, alienation and boredom. Although Iggy sounds pissed off throughout the album, he sings with a laconic, Mick Jagger-style drawl which gives no impression as to the depravity, despair and drug-fuelled hatred that characterised the next two albums. This album had ATTITUDE, and a very bad one!!!
As compelling as Iggy's dumb lyrics and vocals is Ron Asheton's chainsaw guitar work, creating a bludgeoning wall of power chords and buzzing, off- tempo 'solos'. To write such simple, yet impossible to duplicate, rock music at the height of flower power in 1969 testified to the band's vision. This album is not their best, but it's still great in terms of getting the whole Stooges machine running - and a benchmark punk album in it's own right.
Despite lack of commercial success, it yielded two later punk anthems, the ode to boredom (NO FUN) and the grubby, sleazy I WANNA BE YOUR DOG, both covered by the Sex Pistols in the 70's. Other great moments include the relentless thumping tom-tom beat in 1969, not to mention the driving riffwork and screaming wah-wah pedalry in REAL COOL TIME.
The only reason I gave this album 4 stars is because FUN HOUSE and RAW POWER are, in my opinion, superior albums. John Cale's production does mar the album in parts - liberal use of handclaps, for example, in NO FUN blot out the rhythm section. It seems that Scott Asheston's powerful drumming is generally toned down on this album, as it was on RAW POWER - perhaps he was a producers nightmare, but there is no doubt the Stooges were all about rhythm and brute force, and in this respect Scott was as important a member as his brother, Ron. Also the 10 minute dedication to Nico, WE WILL FALL, is a droning dirge, the only guest appearence of John Cale (on viola) which was in many cases a wasted opportunity. But it is too easy to be critical of a band who, when they went into the studio, only had about 4 songs, and for a band so seemingly devoid of musical skills, they nonetheless came up with a fine little album.
    A must buy!!!

I have heard this album, and I never will start a band. I appreciate their music for what it is, and realize that I am not a musician. I think you are a fool for writing what you did.

No Fun? ...... quite a bit actually!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Feb 19, 2001

He wants to be our dog does he, we'll he can be that and more. This song is so good, that The Fall ripped it off. Ignore We Will Fall, sounds like a crap Doors song, and is way to long. No Fun is anything but what the title indicates......... oh just buy this and then the rest that followed.

"Ann" and especially "We Will Fall" are a little tedious, but the rest of the tunes are simply raw, hard, nasty, and great.
